We recently connected with Brandon Slade and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, thanks for joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
I started Untapped Learning while teaching middle school. Many parents were nervous about the transition to high school and worried their students wouldn’t receive the same level of care, coaching, and accountability I provided in my classroom. When they asked me to coach their students, I realized the need for more support during this critical stage.
If I could go back, I would’ve started Untapped years earlier. I had the idea and knew it would work based on research, but I lacked confidence and kept waiting for permission. I’ve since learned that if I feel strongly about an idea and the research
supports it, it’s worth trying. Starting sooner might have allowed me to help more students earlier, but the timing ultimately
gave me the experience and clarity needed to build something sustainable and impactful.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m the founder of Untapped Learning, where we help students develop executive function skills like time management, organization, and self-advocacy. My journey began as a middle school teacher and school psychologist, but it’s also personal—I have ADHD and struggled in college to manage deadlines and stay organized. I know firsthand how overwhelming it can be, and I’m passionate about helping others discipline their gift and unlock their potential.
Untapped Learning offers executive function coaching, virtual support, and tools that empower students to build habits, prioritize goals, and take control of their success. What sets us apart is our research-backed approach, relatable mentors, and focus on both academic and personal growth.
I’m most proud of the lasting impact we’ve had, from helping students reach their goals to empowering families to navigate challenges together. At Untapped, we give students the tools to be successful not just in school but in life.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Untapped Learning started as my side hustle while I was teaching middle school. Parents would ask me to coach their students, worried about the transition from middle to high school and the lack of accountability and support their kids might face. At first, I balanced coaching with teaching, but as word spread, the demand became overwhelming. I realized I couldn’t give my all to both, so I made the leap and left teaching to focus on Untapped full-time.
A key milestone was learning to take my experiences and write a training that allowed me to grow a team of coaches. I couldn’t do it all alone, so I focused on scaling the care and accountability I provided into something other coaches could replicate. That shift allowed Untapped to grow from a one-person operation into a thriving service that supports students across the country.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
At Untapped Learning, staying connected with our students isn’t about brand loyalty, it’s about showing we truly care about their success. We keep in touch through regular check-ins, follow-ups, and being available whenever they need support. Whether they’re heading into high school, navigating college, or figuring out life after school, we’re always here to help and cheer them on.
Our goal is to build real relationships that last. Families know we’re in their corner, whether it’s offering advice, celebrating milestones, or just checking in to see how things are going. That genuine care is what keeps students and families coming back and why they tell others about Untapped.
