I have so many heartwarming stories from my time with DFW Black Moms Walking, and each one reminds me why this work is so important. The best part of this journey is watching women connect, form lasting bonds, and create the support systems they need to heal. One recent moment that really touched me was at a birthday celebration for one of our walk leaders. She shared how our organization had been a lifeline for her during a difficult season of her life, helping her find community and heal. I’ve heard so many stories like this, and every time someone opens up about how DFWBMW has made a difference in their life, it reaffirms that what I’m doing is not only needed but is exactly what I’m meant to be doing. There is truly no feeling more heartwarming than knowing you’re making a positive impact on the lives of others. Read more>>

As a clinical mental health therapist who loves the work that I do, I am fortunate enough to experience many emotionally rewarding moments in my career. It is truly an honor to have a front row view to people doing the difficult, yet beneficial work to make their lives better and I wish I could share every heartwarming story I have in my memory. I would be writing for months if that were the case. One that stands out to me, though, is actually when I terminated with a past client. To provide a little backstory, for six years, I worked at the Adult Autism and Developmental Disorders Clinic at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. This is an outpatient clinic that treats adults with co-occurring neurodivergence and mental illness. Read more>>

I had the privilege of working with an incredible woman in her 40s who had spent most of her life battling with her weight, cholesterol, and blood pressure. She came to me frustrated and discouraged, having tried every diet imaginable, only to regain the same 20-30 pounds each time. At 260 pounds, she was also dealing with severe joint pain in her knees that made even simple daily activities difficult. When she became my patient, we took a comprehensive, evidence-based approach. I introduced her to GLP-1 medical therapy, which helped address the biological challenges she faced in managing her weight. Together, we worked on crafting a sustainable, high-fiber, plant-predominant diet rich in plant and lean proteins. She also started an exercise regimen tailored to her abilities at the time, gradually building her strength and endurance. Read more>>

I’m asking myself: what is not heartwarming in life? As a psychologist, I can see simple, even ordinary things, turning into deep emotional stories. As one of my patients who was so sad about a vase of flowers that was changed to another place in her building. She was impatient with her rigidity, her resistance with small changes in her day by day life. But, as it turned out, a few minutes before the end of the session, she looked at me and said: “Those flowers were planted there by my aunt. She is an old woman and the last reference of a mother to me.”. And tears came from her eyes. Even an ordinary vase of flowers can be heartwarming, depending on what is on its roots, isn’t it? Going back to my career, I started to research spirituality and mental health, because of what I lived in my childhood and adolescence. I was from a very religious family and my mother had some strong spiritual experiences, although she was also emotionally unstable. My mother died when I was 21 years old, and left me and my three younger sisters. At that time, I was in my Psychology undergraduate course. Read more>>

Not a particular one, but the clients that I have really touched their lives. The ones who come in feeling anxious about their skin, the ones who lack confidence in their appearance, the ones who just want to get ride of their acne. Those are the ones that message me on a random Friday and tell me they went outside without makeup on for the first time in years because they felt comfortable in their skin finally. The ones that tell me that they didn’t have a breakdown at the site of a new pimple forming. The ones who felt like princesses on their wedding day because their makeup glided over their skin like butter. The ones who have gained confidence from just letting me take care of them. The ones who look forward to their facials every time because they love just getting to spend an hour being taken care of and yapping like friends. Read more>>
