Today we’d like to introduce you to Cye
Hi Cye, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It’s kind of strange doing written interviews like this but I don’t want your audience, or mine, to miss out on something awesome that might happen here.
Life is real weird… One of my first memories is an og XBOX turning on. And hearing the radio for the first time… My body has been synchronized with tech and sound long as I can remember. So, I mean, I’ve been patient with the creative process and learned to love it all. There is appreciation from me, at some level, for what everybody is doing right now. Unless it just feels like you’re intentionally trying to make ass music. That’s a huge part of my development in retrospect, actually… being intentional.
We started this sh*t young, man. I speak for a lot of my people when I say it’s been a number of years of just trying to grow up out here… Going to parties and learning a lot of sh*t about ourselves… I’ve just been exploring and trying sh*t. I for real think that’s why I ended up in Hollywood for so long. It was like I needed to get into some shit and just experience it… And we actually did it way early. Most of people think that’s some trendy sh*t, too… To, like, be homeless and bummy and broke and sh*t but it’s not like in the movies. It’s real life addicts and sh*t. Our friends are gone and we left home, bro. It’s not like this was for jokes. All my friends that are still here experienced that sh*t in real life and hella wanted to escape but had no way to get a bus ticket…
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nah, of course. I think without bad times, we wouldn’t be as prepared to sweat it out. I know people expect big things out of my next sh*t… Be it a mixtape or album or whatever… I know people want something bigger this time. And I got something coming around New Year’s, “COLD LOVE TRAP”… That sh*t is crazy, man. And it’s not even everything that I’m setting in place right now. Like I tell my bros, it’s just an adjustment to the tax bracket. Having this money now, I’ve wanted to put it into places that really need it… Like investing in the youth and sh*t. That’s why we started the clothing, too, you know… Something for the kids waiting. I know it’s a lot of expectations, and I want to exceed all that. I think any bad times were worth it to get to this place…
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Really, it was the mixtape in 2021… It changed all this sh*t for me. You can’t stream it anymore, but that music put me where I was at in 2021-2022. I didn’t want to speak on it, just at first, because I wanted the focus to be on the music, for real. And some people know this already, but “Wins and Losses” was recorded on my cell phone in my car in 2019-2020… I was homeless and still got that sh*t off. I had to get my music out there, and it showed a lot of people that I wasn’t playing with this sh*t. The reviews were mixed about it, but I literally didn’t give a f*ck… I was trying to prove that very point by releasing that tape. The mixes were not the way they should’ve been, in my opinion, but there was nothing I could do about it at that point. And I was going to prove something with that project, and I did… I saw someone’s comment or post the other day saying, “Why would I listen to another cye mixtape?”… That project stirred up some sh*t. I could say the same thing for “The Keeper”… That demo album pissed people off.
I love to speak on what sets us apart… That’s my job, for real. As for myself and my team, we drive through the night and go a distance that these content creator artists do not and will not. We’ve made all of the sacrifices, necessary and unnecessary, and learned from all of it. We founded a record label, Recovering Child Music, and created a brand for clothing and accessories called SNOTTY ASS KIDS. My team has helped me record, distribute, and market each of my releases; “Wins and Losses: The Mixtape” my demo album “The Keeper”, and now this “COLD LOVE TRAP” sh*t… I’ve taken my team coast to coast here in America and the whole world next year to work with the best, experience the cultures, and meet the people.
And I’ll say this… It’s all hands on deck for what I’m doing now. It’s a lot of speculation, but don’t believe what you see or don’t see on the internet. We’ve activated at the highest level, and it’s because of the support the 4EVRGANG receives from folks like y’all…
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I was molded by those late nights in Vegas, man… ‘Do City… Henderson is my city, and everybody knows that… Sometimes, bro, it was 30-40 of us outside at GVR, mobbin’… It is nothing like how we grew up in our city. I’ve got friends that I haven’t spoken to in 15 years… I don’t know where they are or if they’re even still around… but I’ll remember them forever, and I do this sh*t for them.
