We were lucky to catch up with Jineara Hampton recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jineara, thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?

I came up with my name “Glorious Ancestors” from my admiration of my culture and everyone that played a part in how we dress and carry ourselves . We didn’t just wear beads and sea shells. We wore diamonds , sequins, silver , gold , beautiful cloths and fabrics.
We are the trendsetters for all fashion.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I always loved jewelry and other accessories as a little girl, anything sparkly and shiny . One of the main things that always stood out to me were odd & creative pieces . I started my line creating jewelry boxes , but making them as a statement piece no matter wear you placed it into your home, .I was still at the time learning the skills of making jewelry. I was also working for a jewelry company at that time, and during my down time I would sit with the sample makers to learn different ways of how to assemble certain pieces . As well learn different jewelry styles . I started out creating my long sequin earrings which became hit , as many had never seen that’ type of earrings before . I was still learning how to sew and once I learned the basics of sewing on charms , I then created my beautiful Glorious Turbans . I had been wanting to create them for awhile but at the time didn’t have the skill . They too became a major hit , when others saw the one I created for myself. I than began to have lots of custom request from people near and far. As well as photoshoots ,and some merchandise to be sold in stores .
One of my main focus when creating is to create odd pieces for people to not only look good but to be themselves in a glorious way. I believe when creating your product it’ is very important to be yourself! Do not worry about trends . Know that you’re glorious and unique , your customer will come . “Reign in all your Glory “

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn is listening to others opinions and not trusting myself . Like many others when accomplishing goals you will have soo many people criticizing and critiquing your work. I didn’t have the confidence to trust myself and almost allowed others self projections . Key work ALMOST. But I realized that I had been given a vision and that however I want my line to go it will go . My voice is the only voice that matters . Most people never want to see your greatness , but shine anyway ! Know that your voice is the only voice that matters !

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

I believe me not being afraid to reach out to people authentically. Not just attempting to sell for money. But really believing in my work enough to know that people will enjoy it and that it would last a long time, along with the relationships I build with people in general.
