We were lucky to catch up with Kristin Ballard recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kristin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I defiantly would have started sooner. In 2008 I have a creative vision I didn’t act on it, and it sucked to know I had an idea I just didn’t stick to it and didn’t trust myself. I started about 8 years ago it was just a different medium but still very much so in a creative realm. I really started embroidery art and painting during the pandemic. It has been one of my biggest lessons to bet on myself. Also, if I had started younger I couldn’t imagen where I would be. So, I will say Let the world see you.
Kristin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m an artist my name is Kris G. so one thing I provide is Artwork to make your home, workspace or any empty space a bit more colorful. With house of Kris G. Artistry with unique Embroidery art as well as my paintings. I also have a business where I host paint and sips called Garden of the mind. Where we paint garden pots to add a little more color and creativity to your home. Using painting to help relive the creativity and let that inner child play. After painting the pot putting positive words or affirmations something you want to see grow in your life at the bottom of the pot. So that every time you walk past the pot it’s a reminder of what you want to see grow. A fun spin on a paint and sip.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
As an artist I love seeing people get lost in my work. Staring and trying to find the story behind the work. I feel like they see me in those moments. It like understanding the levels of trusting the process I had to go through and now you get to see the end result of a completed painting
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Painting was my therapy while I battled breast Cancer I would paint and do my embroidery art while I was sick. It was a way of keeping things feeling normal. I would create before I was Diagnosed kept my mind off things. So interesting story when I found out i was sick and knew i would lose my hair. I wasn’t really bothered by that because I used to have a low haircut. so i told my barber to put designs all over my head until all my fair falls out. He did and I later too a picture of my head with the designs and began to do a self-portrait of my hair design. I shocked myself it came out grate.
