We recently connected with Timneisha Greene Kim and have shared our conversation below.
Timneisha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Being able to write stories from my personal experiences to liberate those confined, to speak for those muted, to receive those excluded, and to awaken the souls of the untutored are the objectives I wish to create and the story behind my mission of being a storyteller.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Timneisha and I am a proud African-American (Black) storyteller and native of Los Angeles County (Watts and Compton), California. Growing up, I found early on that I loved writing. Writing was a safe haven for me where I could easily express myself in freeform. Like many young people who have struggled to find their voices, I too was one of them, and writing was the one outlet where I felt I could be free, safe, not judged, and whole. This love of writing spilled over into my adulthood. As I matured, my stories were and still are created based on my joys and my pains, to rejoice and release. Ultimately, this passion has led me to become a self-published author of Athena’s Quest: A Lesbian’s Quest for Normality, screenwriter, and filmmaker (Dear God). I am currently working on my next short film, Purpose, which highlights the topic of grief and mental health. I pray that the stories I share can touch and help someone and that I am doing a great job representing those who are like me.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I believe as a creator, you must celebrate every milestone and never compare yourself to any other creator in your field (lane) because comparison is truly the thief of joy. After entering into the film festival circuit, I quickly learned that rejections may come, but I found myself trusting that a delay in my journey didn’t mean denial. I continued entering my short film into festivals and my film was picked up as official selections. Resilience and perseverance are two important and valuable traits to have on your journey as they are the direct motivations to stay the course.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a storyteller is telling the story! So many people sit in turmoil and cannot or will not tell their stories. I’m always rewarded when I can use my voice to touch on some of the most sensitive and challenging topics for those who cannot or will not. When my audience share with me how my stories impact them in some way, nothing is more rewarding than that.
