We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ulyana Isupova. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ulyana below.
Ulyana, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
1. Do you manage your own social media or have you hired someone or a team/company to manage it?
At the moment, I delegate most of my media work to others. I have a manager who handles communication with clients on Instagram, and I also work with a team of targeting specialists who manage my ads and connections. This allows me to maintain my media presence while focusing on creating art and working directly with clients.
2. Why did you make the choice you did?
This decision came with time as I realized that managing everything alone was exhausting and impacted the quality of my tattoo work. As a perfectionist, I know that if I tried to do it all, I’d have to study every detail thoroughly to ensure it was done to my standards—but I decided it’s much more effective to delegate media tasks and focus on what I’m best at: creating art and delivering a unique experience for my clients.
3. What have the results been so far?
The results have been positive, freeing up more of my time to focus on my core work as a tattoo artist. I continue working on delegating even more tasks, particularly in managing my overall social media presence. This allows me to stay focused on creating high-quality tattoos and maintaining strong client relationships, while ensuring everything else runs smoothly.
4. Any lessons or insights you can share with other business owners who are thinking about what to do?
I would advise those who are unsure where to start to begin by managing everything yourself. This helps you understand your audience and develop your brand’s voice, especially as an artist, where personal connections with clients are key. Once you grow, start delegating tasks to professionals so you can focus on your strengths, whether that’s creating art or working directly with clients. Initially, I found it difficult to trust others with my work, but I’ve learned over time to open up, trust people, and give them a chance—either based on intuition or how my heart feels. Delegation is key to maintaining focus and delivering the best results.

Ulyana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Each tattoo tells a story, even if it’s a simple, minimalist design. A tattoo can evoke deep emotions and hold a personal significance that goes beyond its appearance. As a full-time tattoo artist, I travel across the U.S., working with clients to create custom tattoos that reflect their unique stories and bring those emotions to life through design.
What sets me apart is my dedication to crafting pieces that resonate deeply with the individual. I take the time to understand each client’s vision, and together we create a design that feels personal and meaningful. My work spans various styles, but whether it’s a small, subtle piece or a larger, more detailed project, my focus is always on capturing the essence of the story behind the tattoo.
I also prioritize professionalism and use high-quality equipment to ensure each tattoo is not only visually stunning but also safe and precise. This commitment to quality extends through every aspect of my process.
I’m proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients, many of whom return not just for the quality of my work but for the experience of co-creating something deeply personal. For potential clients or followers, the most important thing to know is that I approach every tattoo with care, creativity, and a commitment to delivering something unique and meaningful.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been staying true to who I am and the values I hold in my work. Honesty, combined with a relentless pursuit of excellence and perfectionism, has been key to my growth. I constantly push myself to improve and deliver the best possible results. Clients can feel that commitment to quality, and it resonates with them, helping me build trust and long-lasting relationships.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I first started my career as a tattoo artist, it was nearly impossible to get a place at a tattoo shop as an artist not an apprentice. Many experienced artists were reluctant to take on a beginner without studio experience. But I knew that tattooing was my true calling, and I wasn’t going to give up.
To keep improving and developing my skills, I had to take on other jobs. I worked as a waitress, did food deliveries, and spent all my free time dedicated to tattooing. I practiced on artificial skin, looked for random canvases from dating apps who were willing to trust me with their tattoos, and constantly worked on perfecting my craft to build up a decent artists portfolio
It was a challenging period—switching between jobs and still finding time for creativity and learning. But I knew that until I reached a stable income from tattooing, I had to work even harder. Gradually, my efforts started to pay off. People began noticing my work, recommending me to their friends, and little by little, I was able to focus entirely on tattooing.
This story reminds me that no obstacle can stop you if you truly believe in your dream. Persistence and the willingness to push through the difficult times will always lead to success.
