We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ashley Rodriguez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, appreciate you joining us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you as a business owner?
During my time in the military, rising through the ranks to become a noncommissioned officer, I was immersed in a crucible of leadership lessons. I witnessed, time and again, how leadership could falter when it lacked humanity. The glaring gap in some leaders’ approaches was their inability—or unwillingness—to truly see the people behind the mission. They focused solely on results, often at the expense of morale, cohesion, and trust.
But from those failed examples, I gleaned a powerful truth: success doesn’t come from barking orders or chasing metrics; it comes from investing in your people. It’s about understanding their strengths, challenges, and aspirations, and empowering them to bring their best selves to the table. I saw firsthand how a motivated, supported team could not just meet expectations but exceed them, achieving the mission with pride and purpose.
Today, as a business owner, I carry that lesson with me every day. Leadership isn’t just about the vision—it’s about the people who help bring it to life. By nurturing my team, fostering their growth, and genuinely caring for their well-being, I’ve created an environment where success is not just a goal but a shared journey. This mindset doesn’t just fulfill the mission; it transforms it into something extraordinary.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Nationally Certified Counselor with a deep passion for helping individuals navigate life’s most challenging moments. My journey into this industry was born from a lifelong commitment to understanding the human experience, a drive to foster resilience, and the personal recognition that healing often requires more than traditional approaches. As a veteran, I carry with me the values of discipline, dedication, and compassion, which continue to shape my work today.
At A&R Counseling LLC., we provide integrative trauma-focused services with a holistic approach. We offer therapy for teens, adults, couples, and families, addressing everything from trauma and anxiety to personal growth and life transitions. While traditional counseling is our cornerstone, we go further—offering innovative, evidence-based, and holistic services that incorporate the mind-body connection, such as mindfulness, EMDR, and Reiki healing. What sets us apart is our emphasis on creating a uniquely tailored journey for each client. Our virtual and hybrid, client-centered approach ensures accessibility and comfort, while our team’s dedication ensures every individual feels seen, heard, and empowered to reclaim their life.
What makes me most proud is the trust our clients place in us and the transformations we’ve witnessed in their lives. We’ve built a space where people don’t just survive—they thrive. Seeing someone rediscover their strength and step into a brighter future is the most fulfilling part of what we do.
For anyone considering working with us, know this: at A&R Counseling, you’re not just a client—you’re a partner in your journey. Our mission is to walk alongside you, guiding and supporting you as you create the life you’ve envisioned. It’s not just about solving problems; it’s about uncovering possibilities and creating a space for your growth, healing, and self-discovery.
What drives us every day is the belief that transformation is possible for everyone, and we are honored to be a part of that process.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Managing a team and maintaining high morale starts with leading from the heart. Be honest and transparent—people value authenticity and trust grows when they know you’re upfront with them. Communicate openly about the “why” behind decisions, and ensure your team feels informed and included.
Equally important is being present—not just physically, but emotionally and mentally. Show up for your team as a leader and as a person. Celebrate their wins, support them during challenges, and make time to listen to their ideas and concerns. Being present demonstrates that you value them not just for their work but for who they are.
Foster an environment of collaboration and mutual respect. Empower your team by investing in their growth, providing clear direction, and acknowledging their contributions. High morale doesn’t come from grand gestures—it’s built through consistent, everyday actions that show you care. When your team knows you’re in the trenches with them, they’ll rise to meet any challenge with you.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Building my reputation within the market has been a blend of authenticity, relentless dedication, and a commitment to elevating the human experience. My journey began with a vision to create a counseling practice that doesn’t just address symptoms but embraces the whole person—mind, body, and soul. This holistic approach, rooted in trauma-informed care, has not only set us apart but resonated deeply with clients seeking meaningful, lasting change.
Consistency has been a cornerstone. Whether it’s delivering exceptional care, being present in the moments that matter, or upholding the values of trust and compassion, I’ve strived to ensure that every interaction reflects the mission of A&R Counseling.
What truly amplifies our reputation is the way we connect with our clients. We don’t offer cookie-cutter solutions; we meet them where they are, honor their journeys, and help them rediscover their strengths. Expanding into new states, like Washington, reflects not only our growth but the trust and credibility we’ve built over time.
The unwavering support of my team, my dedication to professional development, and my passion for giving back to underserved communities have also solidified our standing. Ultimately, it’s about delivering value with integrity and being a leader who doesn’t just lead—but listens, supports, and inspires.
