Today we’d like to introduce you to Meg Justice
Hi Meg, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Meg Tannehill Justice and I live and have my Studio in the beautiful tiny mountain town of Mentone, Alabama located in the southern Appalachians .
Ive been an artist and had a desire to create for as long as I can remember. I graduated from Auburn University with a BFA in Fine Art and majored in illustration. Im a painter, illustrator and printmaker and have specialized in linocut printmaking since 2017.
I’m influenced by all things from nature and strong emotional memories of my past and the countryside where I live. Nearly all of my art is connected to these things in some way. My favorite subjects are animals, plants, the mysteries of nature and the stories they tell.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the main struggles was and is visibility. Living in a very small mountain town , my reach with my art is very limited. The internet has been instrumental in giving me a wonderful reach.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an illustrator/printmaker specializing in linocut or relief printmaking
I believe what I’m best known for is my original linocut art I call my waterbird series. A collection of linocut birds in graphic black and white with an over and under the water view into each birds habitat.
I’m very interested in preserving our waterways, wetlands and biodiversity and hope my art might bring some awareness to these areas.
I guess what sets me apart from others would be the original style of my art
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Years ago I used to paint murals in people homes
