Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Berkery
Hi Robin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a fitness instructor and avid hiker, I am no stranger to the gifts that lie in the medicine of movement within the body. I love leading students through safe, inspiring, effective, experiences that leave them feeling relaxed, centered, and invigorated.
I am a devoted student of yoga and mindfulness and have studied yoga for several years now, in Santa Cruz and abroad. My own practice has changed my life in infinite ways, but most of all, it has helped me feel more at home with myself. My teaching style is sincere, intuitive, and lighthearted. One of my skills is in making yoga feel accessible to beginners and experienced yogis alike. I’m a huge proponent of the healing powers of the body-mind-spirit and look forward to teaching students how to transform their lives on and off the mat with yoga practice.
Our online and in person collective of Yogis is supportive and welcoming. We want everyone to feel this good! When I’m not teaching I can be found teaching fitness classes, helping run a local restaurant, traveling, exploring nature, and surrounded by people I love.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
(As I mentioned in the last article) Covid-19 had devastating effects of the entire fitness industry. I was grateful to be able to teach yoga online from the living room of my cozy home. Eventually, I began offering classes on the beach, which is less than half a mile from where I live.
These outdoor classes gave students an opportunity to socially distance, move their bodies, find their breath, and soak up the beauty of the beach and it’s surroundings. We are still meeting on the beach every Saturday year-round!
We’ve been impressed with Yoga with Robin, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In addition to weekly beach yoga, I offer private sessions, and group events. I also teach weekly classes in my Capitola Mall dance fitness studio and fill in as a yoga and Pilates instructor around town. My website offers a full library of on-demand classes as well.
What matters most to you?
Since I began teaching yoga on the beach, I have made payments “donation based”, encouraging attendees to pay only what they can. I have never turned anyone away that couldn’t afford classes. Yoga is for EVERYbody.
