Today we’d like to introduce you to Barb Lamb
Hi Barb, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have work in nthe food & beverage industry for the past 14 years, and have intimate knowledge of specialty food regulation, packaging, distribution, manufacturing and marketing. My food journey started as the Director of the Women’s Business center funded through the SBA. We housed one of the first incubator kitchens in Virginia, and had Chef Stephanie Ganz on staff. She and I later partnered to form The Apple Cart Company, a food focused consulting business. The business was aquired in January 2024 by Big Spoon Co, a full service agency with a concentration in packaged foods and restaurants.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The manufacturing of food is so fascinating, and all my knowledge has come from client lessons. Covid did create supply chain issues, but the need for locally made food products continues to grow. It’s a great time to be in the food industry as the focus shifts back to simply made products with natural ingredients.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
When I orginally became an entreprneur, my client base was nationally sold artists. In many ways, chefs and artists are similiar. Passionate about their creations, and often focused on perfection. My job has always been to steer the business growth, and I use a strategic planning method to offer an overall holistic approach to sales and marketing. This method is what sets Big Spoon Co. apart from our competitors. Identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the customer experience, allowing the sales process to be streamlined.
I am most proud and thankful to utlize my skillset in two of my passion areas: art & food. Nothing make me happier than seeing my clients products on the shelf in different parts of the country.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My core values include integrity, empowerment, loyalty, connection, and creativity. These values drive my work and allows me to connect others within my industry for the greater good. Oh and, laughing out loud matters to me, life should be fun.
