Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Luk
Hi Emily, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When my husband and I got engaged, we looked everywhere for a product that would make it easy for couples to answer basic financial questions like: where are we? Where’s our money going? What are we on track for? What’s the best place for our money?
Everywhere we went, it felt like a mess of logins, accounts, and separate apps. It made it so much harder for us to have basic financial conversations and after researching and talking to hundreds of other couples, we knew we weren’t alone.
We’d both met and fell in love while working together at another Silicon Valley fintech (Even, bought by Walmart). And before that we’d spent 10+ years working in fintech, and I had a background as a CPA and CFA. We were tired of looking for something that didn’t exist yet, so we decided to roll up our sleeves and build the product we wanted together as cofounders.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
“Fintech” stopped being ‘hot’ as we began building the company – but we were more focused on what we believed needed to exist, instead of what the new investor trends were.
