Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Wasy
Hi Patricia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It all started with Piano lessons! I went through the Royal Conservatory Curriculum as a young kid, right through High School. I continued as a Teacher, and in 2017 began Composing and Recording for Streaming Sites. This also led to becoming active on social Media. It’s there, that I was able to meet some incredible Collaborators/Colleagues/Producers.
Since 2017, I’ve been releasing music approximately every few months. It’s been a thrill when these songs get placed on Editorial Playlists or Editorial Radio Stations like ‘Piano’ on Pandora Radio. I’ve been so lucky to have these opportunities, and very grateful! This has ultimately led to a pinnacle event for me so far, and that is being selected for 1st Round Voting in the 67th Annual Grammy Awards 2025! My Solo Mayfair Arrangements Piano project ‘Winter Glow’, which was produced by 3kStatic, was included on the Grammy Entry Ballot in the Category: Best Contemporary Classical Composition. An honor beyond belief. Congratulations to those who have now moved onto Round 2, and Good Luck on Feb.2.2025!
In the early stages of my career, I also had a craving to be an Announcer on Commercial Radio! So alongside teaching and playing Piano, I was involved in Radio as an Interviewer and ultimately Mid-Day Announcer at the OCEAN FM 98.5 in Victoria B.C. and 97 KISS FM in Vancouver Canada. Music was always hands down an integral part of my world.
What really started the Composing and Recording journey for me, was the advent of Home based Recording Software! The ability to record simply in the comfort of my…. well basement makeshift studio, using first, GarageBand, and then moving onto Logic software, has been the game changer.
To this day, I still compose and record in my own home studio (although it’s now upstairs out of the dungeon!) using Logic, and then sending the raw Piano recording to be properly Mixed and Mastered by Multi Grammy-Candidate 3kStatic. I have a Contemporary Classical Piano Debut Album of 9 songs being released currently under The Mayfair Arrangements Profile on streaming sites. Track 1, was released Oct.4th, called Me You & The View, Track 2 called ‘Charmed’ on November 15th, with the remaining Compositions releasing in succession every 6 weeks approximately, right through to July 2025. The entire Album is Produced by 3kstatic.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The initial struggle for me, and still ongoing really, is managing Promotion, Social Media and Music Platform workflow. Promotion is such an important part of Releasing Music as an Artist, but there’s so much to do and so little time! It’s critical to make social media your friend, and be on top of your media presence consistently and constantly. And that’s a challenge, because I think those of us who are Recording Musicians, would just like to be in the studio making Music 24/7!
You can have incredible songs out there, but if no one knows they exist, you’re in for some disappointments. Learning to navigate the different ecosystems of each platform, takes time and energy. Where should I focus, should I make Youtube shorts, or IG Reels, which ideally should be different, or FB Posts or join another FB group oh & then there’s tik tok, Pinterest, and that jpg isn’t the right pixel size for the Bandcamp Cover Art so need to modify thaaat, then Twitter /X has replies that need responding to & now Bluesky! It’s all just nonstop. And you have friends on socials! So you want to keep up with what they’re up to, and respond to their successes, so yeah Social Media and the various platforms for music, the workflow is just constant. Trying to manage it all, while composing and recording, is definitely an ongoing challenge.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I compose and record mainly Contemporary Classical Instrumental Piano Music. My compositions have a simplicity to them, with a sense of peace and tranquility.
I like to work in minor keys, so just by virtue of those minor key elements, there is a slight melancholy feel to my songs, but I hope to convey a feeling of hope overall as well.
I have alot to be grateful for, within this music career so far, from meeting some fabulous people to collaborate with, to having a front seat to hear the absolute latest new Music and trends from Artists both new and established, as a Curator for Playlists on Daily Playlists. Being part of various Facebook & What’s App Groups, is something I’m really happy to have gotten involved with, so much musical knowledge and expertise to glean from these Members. I highly recommend joining groups with people you trust and who truly support all their members.
I lost my Mom to Cancer, I have friends with Cancer, friends right now that are having biopsies, I know the anguish of ‘waiting for results’, all the turmoil that goes along with that disease. I decided to have all my Bandcamp proceeds go to Cancer Research. The two charities in particular are the Cancer Research Society in Canada, and Worldwide Cancer Research which is based in the UK, but work with researchers around the world. I am most proud of this decision to have my proceeds support the Cancer fight.
Since being a Grammy 1st Round Candidate this year, I have met people who are in the highest echelon of the music business. I have so much respect for my fellow Grammy Candidates, plus Academy Members & Grammy Winners, that I’ve had the privilege to speak with over the ‘For Your Consideration’ season. It’s been fascinating to watch and learn and be in this orbit.
I am most recently, a Member of CARAS (Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) and this has been such a wild ‘full circle moment’ after being in the Industry on a few different levels Pianist/Teacher/Radio Announcer/Composer/ I feel all these elements have come together in a most incredible way being a Member of CARAS, and it’s such an honor.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was always into music…I remember even pre-school/pre -Piano lessons, spending literally hours in the basement listening to records and pretending to be a dancer/singer in a live Concert. Doing the choreography, rehearsing and then asking Mom and Dad to come watch the show….yeah sorry about that M&D! Why didn’t I charge more?!? Actually, I don’t even think I did charge. I don’t even think I got any tips either!
As a teenager, I was influenced heavily by my brother, whichever Bands he was listening to, I listened to. Again with the dancing…I remember coming home from high school and grabbing my black cat and dancing with him in my arms in my bedroom to ELO! Blackey especially loved ‘Don’t Bring Me Down’ ha! Such a sweet little thing my Blackey, I’ve always been a cat lover! We also grooved to Earth Wind and Fire! But yeah I loved Music and how it made me feel, seems all my life! And then there’s the Partridge Family Fan Club Membership….but that’s for another day.
It was at this time that I was heavily into my RCM curriculum studies, so I was performing as a Pianist, in Festivals and Concerts. I was playing Classical Music, and I was especially taken with Impressionist Composers like Debussy, Ravel, Satie, Faure, their melodies just resonated with me. The compositions I now create, for sure are influenced by them.
