Today we’d like to introduce you to Tessa Tide
Hi Tessa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When I watched TV shows as a kid, I always resonated with the characters that were singers or musicians, not the characters with other professions.
I remember when I read Disney magazines I was always interested by the pages that talked about writing songs, not the ones that said “does this boy like you quiz” if that makes sense.
Then growing up I realised I wanted to be on stages and sing, and perform, write songs, make music.
Now I have just started releasing my own music, I’m slowly growing a fanbase, a community.
A thing I have realised recently is why I like making music, and it’s because I have been a fan of artists my whole life, and it’s beautiful to find new friendships because of music! Being in fandoms, when I was in high school I felt more accompanied by that; music and fandom friends than other people surrounding me back then.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s hard in terms of I don’t know if it will ever “work”. That makes ir hard. Because if somehow I could know that it is going to work, then I am having a smoooooth experience. I can relax and keep doing what I’m doing. But because I don’t know if this is ever going to “work”, I’m constantly challenging myself, and being hard on myself for “not trying hard enough”.
Also, I prefer to take a challenging path that leads to a long-lasting and better quality career, rather than an easy road that won’t make my music career not endure. Building something meaningful takes time and effort.
My main challenge is that I mostly write songs in English, and my audience is mainly from Spain / Latin America. They listen to my songs and support me, but now I have decided I am going to try and put out songs in Spanish, who knows? That might “WORK”!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make music. My dream job is to keep writing songs, one day tour around cities in the world performing them. Singing with the crowds. Make people feel less alone with my songs.
I am proud that this is what I already do, but at a very small level.
Nowadays you see A LOT of people putting out songs only because they have a huge audience and they will make money out of that song. It’s like one more random piece of content.
I make music because it’s what I’m passionate about, not because I might make a lot of money from it. Because I want to connect with people, and I want people in my fandom to connect with one another. I made so many special friendships because of being a fan, we have groupchats, we meet in person, at the end of the day you have internet friends from around the world, you have someone to talk to even if they are in a different time zone, and all of that, because you listen to the same music.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Wow, how crazy is it that right now I am actually reading a book about Japanese luck. The book talks about the fact that basically luck is in your hands. One of my brothers used to say a lot that “luck is an attitude”. and it is. An opportunity will never find you if you’re not out there LOOKING FOR ONE.
They will pass you by and you won’t even realise if you have the wrong mindset.
For me, Luck means opportunities, they will come to you, but it’s more important what you do with them, And being ready when and opportunity arrives is crucial as well, so you can make the most of it.
You can’t leave in the hands of luck whether your career will be successful or not, you need to wok hard, and not worry about being in the right place at the right time, because in my opinion, we always are in the right place, and at the right time.
