Today we’d like to introduce you to Talaya Scott

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?

First of all, thank you for featuring me. My story started as a young mom surrounded by a lot of confusion regarding managing money. No one in my family or circle talked about it, schools didn’t teach it, and I was completely unaware of its importance. I had my first daughter by the age of 19, and by the time I was 30, I was a single mom of three, broke, bankrupt, without a car, and on the verge of losing my home. I was broken, and this was definitely one of the lowest points in my life. But at that moment, something remarkable happened. I made a conscious decision—I refused to let the cycle of poverty continue in my family. I didn’t realize then that everything would change when I shifted my mindset. On my journey, I began finding answers to questions I didn’t know I should ask.

Fast-forward to today, and I’m committed to helping others transform their financial situations, just like I did with mine. There’s been a growing recognition of the importance of financial literacy in America, but unfortunately, many people only realize this after they’ve left school, racked up debt, and are stuck in the grind trying to pay it off.

With determination and faith, I founded FIIT Perspective, LLC., a financial education firm where I focus on speaking, teaching, and empowering others to transform their lives and achieve financial freedom. Many people teach this same topic, but many don’t discuss issues that keep people down. Nor do they strip themselves and become vulnerable, sharing their lows to snatch others out of poverty. I guess I’m just different, and my mission is simple: to help people change their lives and reach financial independence through education.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?

Whew, absolutely not! It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. One of my biggest struggles was imposter syndrome. At the start, I had so much to share, and I had completely turned my life around, but I didn’t feel ready to turn it into a business. There were still things I was working on personally, and it’s tough to learn new skills, break old habits, and believe you can do something you’ve never done before. So, in the beginning, I struggled with teaching concepts that I was still mastering myself, but God kept nudging me, telling me it was time to step out. I started with my book ” So I graduated, Now what do I do?” A Practical experience of a Journey to Financial freedom.

Another big challenge was trying to launch my business without a steady income. I went all in, but I didn’t have the resources to completely sustain myself. A lot of entrepreneurs do this, but I’ve since learned that it’s best to keep your job until your business profits can fully replace your salary. There’s no shame in starting your business on the side and growing it until it can stand on its own. I did it the other way around, and all the money I made just went straight out the door to cover bills. It wasn’t pretty!

On a more personal note, I wear a lot of hats. I’m a mom of four, keynote speaker, author, accountant, professor, entrepreneur, and soon-to-be doctor! I’m almost done with the first year of my doctorate program. I also teach accounting at a technical college, and my passion is definitely in both teaching and speaking.

My personality and how I connect with my audience set me apart in this industry. I’m fun, real, and relatable, and I don’t hold back when it comes to transformation. I’ve got a bit of a sarcastic streak—just a little—and I’m bold, courageous, and outgoing, which I think makes my approach unique.

How do you think about happiness?

Happiness is temporary. I might feel happy when I’m eating ice cream, shopping in New York, or enjoying a beach on vacation, but what truly fulfills me is joy.

I’m naturally joyful, and that joy comes from a deeper, spiritual place. My faith in God is central to who I am, and I make it a point to spread love and positivity to those around me. Living in a constant state of joy gives me the strength to juggle all the different roles I play as a woman, especially as I continue my journey of helping others.
