Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jasson Harrold. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jasson, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Worked on a project called “concrete & whiskey” with poet , artist ,actor “Omari Hardwick “ for the last two years.
It was recently nominated for a Grammy Award for best poetry/spoken word album at the 2025 Grammy awards.
I had the pleasure of producing and engineering most of the project . I was credited with executive producer.
I met Omari about 5 years ago . We worked on a few songs prior. Then one day he called me to work on this album . Throughout this process. He created 50 songs . There were many long nights . Failures , setbacks . We almost missed the deadline for it to be considered for the Grammys .
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Since a kid . I’ve leaned to play instruments from being in my grandfathers drum & bugle corp . (Basically a band) I played the trumpet and learned drums . This is when I fell in love with music .
I started producing music in 2003 . My mom bought a computer for the house . My uncle gave me a cd with a sequencing program called “fl studio “ or “fruity loops” this is when I fell in love with music production.
I landed placements on local artists in st.louis after a year of developing and improving the quality of my production. In 2005 I landed my first major placement on a song called “bump this” ll cool j feat 50cent.
Fast forward to now I am a Grammy nominated producer.
I encourage upcoming producers , artist & creatives . Network!! Move around!! Go to producer conferences, meet ups etc . Get exposed to what’s outside of your comfort zones. Never stop taking steps forward . Never quit . Most times Just When it seems like you don’t have a path to success. This is usually the breaking point of the next level of your journey. You ultimately decide if you are going to elevate . Or if you are going to settle for the opposite.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
As a teen . I had my first kid in high-school . I had to become an adult while attending high school. I had to work a job . Go to school and be a parent at the age of 17 .
I had all the reasons to give up on my passion. Life , bills , responsibilities would literally suck the life out of me most days
My parents, my older siblings have always had high expectations of me . Discipline was always apart of my life . It made me mentally strong. I’ve made a ton of mistakes in my life . One thing I learned in life is that giving up is never an option when you sat out to accomplish something that you am passionate about .
Fast forward currently I now have 6 kids and am now a Grammy nominated producer.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Chart your own path . Believe in yourself. When things may seem uncertain in your life and career. Just remember to keep pushing forward. My mission is to show that . You may make mistakes early on in your life . You make take an unconventional approach to success. Either way you decide. You have to put the work in .
