We recently connected with Pat Gonzalez and have shared our conversation below.
Pat , appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us a bit about who your hero is and the influence they’ve had on you?
My hero would be my mother. My mother has always had a “can do” attitude and NEVER accepted the word “no” for an answer. She overcame many challenges when she first came to this country but I can honestly say she never gave up on anything she set her mind to. She instilled in me the importance of education and she made sure we received the best education within her means. She has greatly influenced me in all my life journeys because I have a strong belief I can achieve anything I set my mind to. My mother was an amazing problem solver and she passed along that skill on to me which I have passed down to my two daughters. Every time I would see my mother get knocked down by a new life challenge, I would observe her attitude while the wheels were turning in her brain and she would come up with a library of solutions to get ahead. For a woman with only a third grade education, she was very intelligent and a quick thinker. The one thing that sticks in my head is how she cared for my father when he fell ill due to kidney disease and leukemia. What my mother thought would be a short term situation ended up being a 16 year battle to keep my father as healthy as she could to help extend his life. Not once did she ever consider giving up on him, even during the most strenuous of times. Because of the values, tenacity and perseverance I consistently I observed from her, I put up the biggest fight of my life to keep her alive when she suffered a massive stroke. I know I could never give up on her or anything that life throws at me because she taught me giving up is a never an option.

Pat , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am formerly a NYC Police Officer and Construction Manager so working in high stress environments was normal to me but after the pandemic, I was ready for a change and was unsure about continuing my career in construction. I got my notary commission but never thought I could do more with my notary stamp than just notarize a document for a family member or friend who needed a favor.
After facing some challenges at my last employer with a difficult supervisor, I knew it was time to make a change and fast. I started researching opportunities in the notary industry and that is when I discovered notaries are utilized in real estate transactions. Once I made that discovery I quickly got the training required on mortgage loan documents, obtained my title producer license and hit the ground running. I offer closing services for real estate transactions, estate planning/trust documents, apostille documents and mobile notary services for clients in nursing homes and hospice care. My business allows me to travel to the clients home or place of business. This service allows the customer to have their notary needs addressed when it is most convenient for them. I have found that most clients are unable to get a document notarized because of their work schedule amongst other things which can be challenging when they have time sensitive documents, so I will make sure there is no time wasted when they reach out. I am one of the very few mobile notary services that operates 24/7 so that provides more time flexibility to assist clients outside of normal business hours.
I am the most proud of how my business has grown. The opportunity to meet and help so many different people from all walks of life is truly rewarding. I am grateful that I am able to provide a valuable service to my community and as a result most of the growth has come from referrals which is the greatest compliment you can receive as a business owner. My daughters are also part of the business so we are able to reach more clients that require our mobile services. Our quick response time and dependability has fostered a sense of trust within our community.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I feel that my extensive knowledge and experience handling all types of documents have helped build my reputation and trust with clients knowing their documents are in good hands and will be executed flawlessly. I quickly respond to all client calls and messages so people know I am reachable and accessible. When someone reaches out it is usually for an urgent matter whether it’s a real estate closing, a will that needs to be executed for a bedridden patient or any other matter, I take my customers needs very seriously. I genuinely care about helping others and building relationships. In my specific market, I have strived to be more than “just a notary” and go above and beyond for anyone I am able to serve. I am a very transparent person and strongly feel working with integrity and honesty is crucial in creating a good reputation in any industry.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Referrals, referrals and referrals. Referrals have continually provided new clients for me but that came after building relationships within my industry, networking, marketing and expanding my list of notary services.
