We recently connected with Heather Davis and have shared our conversation below.
Heather, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I really would have loved to start my career sooner than I did, just so I could enjoy that many more years doing it! I love what I do behind the chair every single day.
I started doing hair in my early 30s after a long career in the service industry.
Although it would have been great to start earlier, I believe that waiting to start my dream career led me to be very serious about working hard and doing my best.

Heather, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always wanted to do hair. I just enjoyed the idea of helping people feel as good on the outside as they do on the inside.
I think that having prior experience in the food/bar industry really led me to have great customer service skills that I was able to just bring right with me into the hair industry. I feel like I am able to connect better with my clients.
I really enjoy offering precision cuts for everyone. I am a huge fan of lived-in dimensional color, gray transitions, and men’s cuts.
I have taken many continuing education classes and have earned certifications in product and service knowledge. I am most looking forward to continuing to grow my craft behind the chair and be able to offer the services and education my clients need to feel confident.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to be the best version of me that I can be. Like Matthew McConaughey
said “My hero is me 10 years from now.”
I strive to be better every single day than I was the day before.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Networking for sure. It gets talked about, but never really driven home. I have really enjoyed networking with other business owners, creatives, and moms. We all have so much to offer each other and can help keep each other in business! Work with your local community and spread the love. Recommend each other, support each other.
