We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Art Angels. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Art below.
Art Angels, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
We facilitated the launch of the Aku movement, an idea spawned by our artist Micah Johnson. Based around the question, “Mom, can astronauts be black?” posed by his nephew, Micah set out to create a collection, physically and digitally based, that empowers black youth to believe in themselves and their dreams. The result is the inception of Aku, a young black astronaut whose imagination, and subsequently his adventures, are limitless. Aku: “Build Worlds Around Dreams.” Aku is featured on the cover of TIME Magazine for the August 8/15 double issue.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Art Angels’ contemporary and provocative style has attracted collectors from around the world. Exhibiting a selection of both established and emerging artists, Art Angels offer a truly eclectic mix for their clientele with an ever-growing number of innovative artists joining the Art Angels family.
The increasingly successful gallery has become the premier destination for artists and collectors alike, who want to be a part of something visionary and unique. Attracting a wealth of high-profile businesses and individuals as clients, Art Angels offers the VIP experience whilst maintaining the down-to-earth, approachable vibe it built itself on.
Art Angels are on the precipice of developing cutting-edge NFTs with their talented array of artists. Their participation in the metaverse, the new virtual frontier for art, culture and experiential immersion, is a testament to their desire to build community and expand artist messaging on both a physical and digital level. Sold out drops from artists Flore and Nick Veasey have cemented them as a cultural force and tastemaker in web3.
Reflecting on their success, the Angels note: Art Angels was built out of a shared love for art and the belief that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy and acquire art in an environment that is both welcoming and inspiring.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
As we were gaining popularity, building clientele and establishing ourselves as a tour de force in the art world, COVID attempted to derail all progress we’d made. Resourcefulness, creativity and patience were key themes we followed to the utmost degree during this time. We made sure to exhibit artists and works who contrasted the dark times we lived in with bright, uplifting artwork. Our artist PunkMeTender transformed the exterior of our gallery into a terrarium with black butterflies and pink paint streaks adorning the white stucco walls. We had an in-person exhibition for Russell Young, titled Heroes of the West reminiscing on the era of the Wild West, requiring masks and facilitating rapid COVID-19 testing at the door. Being able to persevere through an intense period of uncertainty and provide the public with soothing, positive art to alleviate their grief has been monumental to our continued success.

Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
As a progressive art gallery, we see NFTs as the newest frontier of community-building through art. We are partnered with SuperRare, an upper echelon NFT platform exhibiting 1/1 works, and are in the throes of launching our SuperRare Space to highlight artists and thematically curate beautiful collections. While art can very well serve as an investment, the innate uniqueness of each piece we showcase instills inherent value within the piece. The technology behind NFTs also allows artists to rightfully regain access to revenue from secondary sales of their works, something that has never before been possible.
