Today we’d like to introduce you to Saisha Monét
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all started at the tender age of 2 years old when I took my very first ballet and tap class at Yvonne’s Direction in Dance. That was my very first introduction to the arts and I had no idea that I would fall in love, forever.
Years went by and at the age of 17 I took my very first hiphop class and that’s when the light bulb went off. I was given the opportunity to choreograph my very own hiphop solo for my gradutation from YDID and people started to pay attention to my God-given gift.
I then began teaching at different studios sharing my passion and eventually I picked up the camera. An old friend told me I had the right personality for Youtube so I went to Best Buy, got a credit card, and purchased my very first camera. Now that’s a funny (not really funny) story. I booked a videographer in 2019 to film a concept dance video and he did not show up. So, I picked up my camera and asked my friend to film me dancing. I edited it and posted it on all of my social media platforms and people paid attention! Before you knew it, I fell in love with editing and production. So that’s how my videography passion was birthed. Then came Youtube and it just all cane together to be the perfect gumbo, really.
Oh, and I love to paint and recently discovered I love pottery.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all! When I was in highschool, I dealt woth major dance insecurity. I was on an elite dance team who was known for always winning competitions. People respected this team and God granted me the favor to have the opportunity to experience 3 years on this team. It wasn’t until year 3 that I actually was able to perform because I would get cut the other two years. So yeah, insecurity was heavy back then. I felt like dance wasn’t my true calling mentally but my Spirit always reminded me of different. Junior year was when, like I said previously, people started taking me seriously when I started doing hiphop. I also tried out for the NOLA Pelicans in 2017 and didn’t make it so that definitely played a part in the insecurity. It wasn’t until 2018 that God opened my eyes and it was like I realized “People will only take you as seriously as you take yourself”. THAT’S when it got real and I started going full force for what I believe/love.
Fast forward, In 2021 I opened my first dance studio, but then I closed it like 3-4 months later because I became pregnant with one of THE greatest gifts, my babygirl Shylah. From 2021-2022 I had to take a break from what I love, but now I AM BACK, by the grace of God!!! And I’m so excited for the blessings and projects to come!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Woman of God, a loving mother of 1, Dance and Fitness professional, Christian Podcaster, and Videographer.
I am most proud of my resilience. The fact that I could have given up when obstacles were thrown but instead God gave me the strength to use those blocks to climb higher!
I believe that God sets me apart. It’s His anointing that shines through me!
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Timing. Timing is EVERYTHING. God makes no mistakes and even when we try to reroute, He always puts us right where we need to be. Jeremiah 29:11. It’s all in His plan and we have to trust and obey HIM and HIS timing, even if it looks totally different from our “planner”.
