We recently connected with Jessica Apolo and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Am really proud of adventuring in the world of writing, I have never done it before, and when COVID strike It was an escape and an oportunity to explore new ways to express myself and present a little bit of the worlds than live in my imagination

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Madam Pink came to life in a critical moment of my life, I was in college and I couldn’t pay my student debts, so as everything in my life, I solve my problems being creative. I start to notice than the people like my artwork, so I start going to art events and expose my work trying to earn a coin for it, the response I have was amazing!!! Soon the people doing this art events invited me directly, that was a start for the “brand”. Soon after I completed my studies and start working as an 911 dispatcher, my job was so demanding that as a way to relieved stress and anxiety, that boost my creative bateries and I started again going to exhibits and art events. I always find greek mythology very special, almost as an attraction, my illustrations always became very inspired in those gods and creatures of the myths, being the female the leads of my work, femenine and strong figures lays on my papers. Just recently drawing was no longer a way to tell my audience a story, because every time I draw something the lines, colors and expressions try to tell you a story, but I needed to take It to another level, and in that point I’ll started writing.
Am a tradicional and (recently) digital illustrator, designer of handmade jewelry (resin cast), embroiderer and writer, who lives in Tijuana with two cats, two dogs and a loving couple who support every crazy idea I have.
Being so close EUA to México, that open a whole specter of things to see, to live and try, both citys (San Diego and Tijuana) are so talented, art blooms and each corner where you look, that develop a seed im my, to try my best to continue to prolong that beautiful side of the city.
Am really grateful and very happy to have this oportunity to speak a little of my work, right now am so proud of my work as a writer, this past march I self publish my second book called “Kore”.
As a confess earlier greek mythology Is my passion, and this book is a retelling of one very known myths, the abduction of spring goddest Persephone.
My first book is called “The bull of Crete” (El toro de Creta). Also a retale of the minotaur myth.
In both this stories, my vision was to empower and give voice to the female actors of this tragedies, in ancient times and still now we womans keep fighting to have the same rights as men does, to be respected and for equality. This subject as not change even in this times, so that Is why a wanted to retale thoses myths in a more feministic manner, rescuing of the shadows the poweful and resilent ladys that lived in those timeless tales.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I often create mainly for myself, to make my inner child happy, construct better worlds in my storys as an escape of the injustice of this reality, doodles and sketches to relieved my anxiety problems. But whats my true motivation is to achieve those same things in my audience, to help them relax and give a break of their heavy mental problema (as mine Is), to empower and show the beauty in our gender, body positivity of the female body, a little window to explore a world that can help express difficult feeling, thoughts or love.
As always my reward is not about having a large audience, is giving them art that can make them smile, cry, admire and love, and every time trying to be a medium for catarsis and exploration.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I think everyone of us has a creative specter, each in differents ways. But I guest not all of us truly sees It, everyone can take a pencil and draw or write, Is not about practice or aesthetic, is about printing feelings, and not feel ashame of doing so. I think society has a very harsh way of cutting the creative wings to all of us, because in practical life that doesn’t bring money, not either produce something for this consumer society, and they are right, you and me can make much more importart things, we can express, channel and help others with intangibles things, with not money value, but emotionally priceless, art Is a need for each of us, and the most beautiful part is that everyone of us can do It in our way. Step by step society learns the hard way, to not block this matter and support every brave soul who travels in this uncharted waters, for they are the saviors of all of us.
Without art, life would be meaningless, cold and sad. We truly need yo change the way we see our brave creative people. Open spaces to show their work, to hear what they write and to feel what they try to lets us be part of it.
We can all make our part, participate as audience in an art show in your city, buy from local artistas, support their webs ir social media, even sending them a little comment, Is a great way to boost their motivation yo keep going.
