Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Zen
Hi Paige, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have produced 4 festivals in the past 13 years. I started out as a professional hula hooper – performing around the region – and wanted to learn more. I wanted to find educators who could help improve my skill level and understanding of the practice. As a 25 year old with zero event experience – I had no idea that it would be fairly difficult to participate in the festival while organizing/running it.
However, I fell in love! I started PlayThink in 2012 as a flow arts/movement festival focusing on dance, yoga, poi, and hula hoop arts.
I quickly saw the demand for more yoga and announced the first Kentucky Yoga Festival in 2019.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Event production is never a smooth road – full of challenges and fun along the way. I have battled with lack of ticket sales, curating the perfect workshop line up, and finding musicians that won’t only bring a great soundscape but also want to be part of the community. I have gone through multiple staff members, venue changes, covid shutting down everything.
At the heart of it – I never expected to produce events for a living. I was a 20 something in school to be a pilot working for the Kentucky Dept. of Aviation. But that first event made me fall in love and I just keep falling harder.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I own a production company, PlayThink Productions, that is focused on bringing transformative and healing events to people. We like to center around nature, education, and connection. I am so incredibly proud of each and every person that has been moved by any of my events and think that my ability to hold safe spaces and make everyone feel radically seen is different than many in business.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I have learned that it a necessity to check in with that’s working and with what isn’t working so that you can make appropriate changes.
