Today we’d like to introduce you to Eva Volf
Hi Eva, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Imagine a little blond girl with big green eyes growing up feeling lost in a big stuffy city. I always felt like I didn’t belong, like the only time and place where I could really breathe and be truly alive was by the sea where every summer my parents brought me for a month. I was a stranded mermaid with a dream to live on the coast forever. While this dream was taking some time to materialize I was drawing and painting ocean waves, sea views and beaches in my free time. Art has become my daily meditation to help me relieve stress and exhaustion after long days at school and later from my teaching career. At 30 I decided to quit my stressful teaching job and become a full time artist. The best decision I have ever made. Fast forward 12 years of thousands studio hours, extensive travels, painting on locations at the most beautiful beaches of the world, teaching workshops, participating in exhibitions, receiving awards, being featured in major art magazines and selling, packing and shipping thousands of paintings all over the world to hundreds of homes, offices, corporate collections, hotels and offices – and now I’m one of the best selling oil painters in the U.S.
With my husband and our three kids, I travel to different beaches in Carolinas, Florida, California and the Caribbean several times a year, every time making sketches and painting on location and later turning these studies into larger paintings in my home studio in Ohio by Lake Erie. I’m on a mission to bring the serenity of the sea closer to other ocean lovers like me through my peaceful seascapes.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When you follow your true calling, your road is mostly smooth and I have been blessed with recognition and numerous sales of my paintings and treasure every delighted review I receive from my happy customers. Like many women, I occasionally struggle with juggling my career and being a mom to our three kids. In the past I mostly used to paint when my kids were at school and was able to attend art events when my husband stayed at home with them. But now all our kids are teenagers and I have significantly more time. I’m so glad that they all love the ocean as much as I do and learned to swim soon after they learned to walk. They thoroughly enjoy our frequent ocean getaways, don’t mind getting up early to see the sun rise over the Atlantic, love watching me paint and are my biggest fans and supporters.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have been very intuitive in my art career and have established my online presence with massive social media following more than 10 years ago, when very few people even heard of Instagram. I have also joined major online galleries like SaatchiArt, Artfinder, Singulart and Artmajeur a long time ago and have consistently sold many artworks there over the years as well as through my own website evavolf.com
So when the world stood still during Covid pandemic and my Cleveland galleries had to shut down, my business was blooming even better than ever before. In 2020 I made a decision to focus on selling my art primarily online because this way my paintings get significantly more exposure than in any physical gallery. I still participate in juried shows and enjoy interacting with my local art community and soon will assume a post of Social Media Director of the American Artists Professional League in NYC. But my main focus now is on creating original soothing ocean paintings and providing impeccable customer care, making sure the artworks are delivered safely to my customers whenever in the world they might live and that my art collectors are completely happy with their purchases. It’s such a joy to read their 5 star reviews and see the photos of my paintings hanging in their beautiful homes! It makes my life meaningful and inspires me to create more serene coastal paintings.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my life journey is that everything in our life without exception is either a blessing or a blessing in disguise. The global pandemic helped me realize that selling art online I can reach more art lovers all over the world. My online galleries, my website evavolf.com and my social networks where I share my inspiration and work process help me to get my work out there and build up trust for successful art business. I feel so blessed to have my art purchased by art collectors in more than 20 countries of the world. I often joke that my paintings travel even more than I do.
