Today we’d like to introduce you to Klemntyna
Hi Klemntyna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Klemntyna and I’m a NYC/London-based Pop/R&B music artist, as well as an entrepreneur within digital media and women empowerment. I was born and raised in Warsaw, Poland and left for NYC at the age of 19 to study at NYU. I have later moved to London to finish my college education at King’s College London. My story thus far has been defined by a lot of ups and down, as well as various challenges I’ve been learning to navigate and deal with. Ever since I was a child, I had a dream of doing extraordinary things – I wanted to pursue music, travel, and have a positive impact on the world. This is also why from a very young age, I decided I wanted to leave Warsaw and move to NYC, where I could truly pursue my artist project and my wildest dreams. I have been consistently working towards that goal at every stage of my life, from taking regular voice and dance classes since the age of 12, to studying hard throughout my entire education, to overcoming some of my biggest personal challenges, to learning to ask for what I want and going for it. There’s been so many steps along the way, it’s really hard to list out everything, but two things that have truly always push me forward were my passion for music and singing, as well as believing whole-heartedly that anything is possible. While still in college and at the start of the pandemic, I co-founded a music live-streaming startup, LiveRoom Media, where I had an opportunity to connect with hundreds of independent music artists, learn a lot about digital marketing, and most importantly support indie artists at such difficult time. Thanks to our platform, they were able to monetize their livestreams and earn up to $700/hr. At the same time, I also founded a digital community, FemZquared, focused on empowering Gen Z girls and women on social media through storytelling. The idea was inspired by my personal experience struggling with how social media affected my mental health. With that project I had an opportunity to connect with hundreds of inspiring women and share their authentic stories, as well as host numerous online educational and networking events, including Girls Code Fest. Right after I graduated from college, I started my own business in digital media and have since worked with projects in web3, tech, arts, and entertainment. Throughout all these years, I have also been making my original music, which I am now releasing under my artist name “Klemntyna”. My debut album, SHE, came out on June 21st, 2024. Produced by a talented artist and producer, who is also my best friend, Jake Tavill, the album talks about navigating relationships, growth and ambition in your early 20s. My goal with it is to inspire and empower women in their 20s to embrace their own journey and narrative.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely NOT been a smooth road :) Some of the early struggles I dealt with were personal ones. For example, I’ve naturally been a very shy person and one day I just decided that I needed to work on it in order to pursue a career in music. I had a friend who really inspired me in how open-minded and outgoing she was, and I pushed myself to be like her. As I got older and further along my journey, I needed to overcome more challenges such as fundraising for my college education. My dream was to study at NYU, where I got a partial scholarship. I took a gap year between high school and college to search for the remaining funds. Because of hard work but also a bit of luck, I had an opportunity to meet someone who was the first person (besides my mom:) ) to truly believe in me and help me accomplish that dream for the first year at NYU. I went through a similar experience after my freshman year, trying to fundraise for the rest of my education, unfortunately unsuccessfully at the time, however, that experience has really taught me so many skills that I use up til now at work and in music! When I was still in college, I started to notice how badly social media affected my mental health. Seeing that it was also not just my experience, I decided to start FemZquared to empower girls and women affected by the warped reality social media presents. In a way, it was me turning my challenge into a strength because that experience has taught me so many skills, but also connected me with a lot of inspiring women that I’m still friends with, and most importantly impacted a number of people. Currently, being a recent college graduate and also an independent singer songwriter, some of my challenges are as common as dealing with anxiety related to work, feeling lonely, and even still struggling with social media’s impact on my mental health. The way I deal with it is I always try to turn some of these challenges into great music, as well as remind myself to learn to simply accept that it’s normal and okay to feel all these emotions and feelings sometimes. The key to success is to learn to navigate and deal with all the challenges, so that in the end you learn new skills that you can apply towards your goals.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an independent Pop/R&B music artist, as well as an entrepreneur working in digital media and women empowerment. As an artist, I write about my experience, personal reflections, challenges and feelings. My main music inspirations growing up were Beyonce, Michael Jackson, and Whitney Houston. More recently, I’ve been drawn to darker influences in Pop and R&B, ranging from artists such as The Weeknd, Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish, or RAYE. I also draw inspiration for my songwriting from Beat Poetry, such as Allen Ginsberg, as well as rap, particularly JAY Z and Mac Miller. I have been releasing a lot of new music this year, including my debut album, SHE, on June 21st, 2024 which talks about navigating relationships, growth and ambition. My goal with music is to inspire and empower women to embrace their own journey and narrative.
As an entrepreneur, I’ve been focusing on working with digital media in women empowerment, tech, arts, and entertainment industry. At the start of 2020, I founded a digital community, FemZquared, aiming to empower Gen Z women to share their stories. As a result, I built a community of 1500+ women, connected with hundreds of inspiring personalities, and had an opportunity to host numerous educational and networking events within the fields of literature, arts, music and tech. In March 2021, FemZquared hosted a global STEAM conference, Girls Code Fest, in collaboration with a Swedish coding startup, imagiLabs. The conference invited girls and women aged 13-30 to participate in panels and workshops hosted by 20+ female leaders in Software Engineering, Machine Learning, AI, Data Science, Extended Reality and Product Management. Each day we also invited 3 music acts pursuing their interest in tech to perform a concert live-streamed through LiveRoom Media. We’ve received support from numerous educational institutions such as NYU, King’s College London and Imperial College London, as well as a sponsorship from Sonalake. Outside of my work with FemZquared, I started a digital marketing company based in London that specializes in supporting startups in tech, arts and entertainment. My goal as an entrepreneur is to inspire innovation and empower digital communities.
How do you think about luck?
Someone once told me that luck is the product of hard work and being ready, and I couldn’t agree more. I really do believe that anything is possible if you put your mind to it, put in necessary effort, and thoroughly believe in it. And then, you just keep pushing and pushing until an opportunity comes your way. You need to be open to various opportunities and also be brave enough to see where they can take you. In my experience, I’ve definitely been working hard to be where I am, but I was also trying to put myself out there in situations and in front of people that I thought could help me. There’s been many times when I got rejections, or I didn’t even hear back. But then eventually, there was one person that said “yes” and that was enough for me to keep going and find new opportunities that would take me even further along my journey. Therefore, I believe you need to put in work and keep on getting better at your craft, and then one day when the time’s right and you’re ready, you’ll be able to succeed.
