Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Focus
Hi Will, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a child I fell heavily into the realm of illustration after watching my mother draw images of me and my cousins in our dining room. A simple #2 pencil and a sheet of loose leaf paper was all that was needed to pull me in. Little did I know at the time, that my other obsession for photography would be cultivated due to my mother’s consistent use of her Nikon SLR.
As I got older, I eventually went to college on a full scholarship. My field was mechanical engineering, but after 3 years, I grew tired of engineering and shifted to computer science. Although this was a bit more intriguing as it was more of an instance gratification of creation, I eventually left the coding world of computer science and finished getting my degree in Graphic Design. This world was the one I heavily sought after.
After working for clients and creating various aspects of branding for businesses and individuals, I eventually added illustration and photography to my branding arsenal. It was at this point that my love for Photography began to truly overshadow the rest.
As it stands today, I am a Brand Photographer who runs an experiential visual/photo event series entitled “The Photo Takeover”. The Photo Takeover is looks to gather various creatives under one figurative umbrella both in studio and on location, in order to provide and foster an environment of creativity, understanding, relationship building, and education; many of the very things we find difficult when looking to grow within our respective creative industries. Photographers, Videographers, Models, MUAs, Designers and Stylists all pool their resources together to create beautiful portfolio breaking content/visuals.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The direction has always been clear but the path to get there has always been riddled with bumps. These obstructions I soon learn exist only to serve the purpose of my durability and recognition so that I may educate others.
The major struggles I found, I solved.
Cultivating (creating concepts and executing, while building talent)
Understanding (being able to empathize, and sympathize with others. meet them where they are)
Relationships (don’t go alone, go together. utilize your resources and build your team around you)
Education (never stop learning. continued learning will continue evolution)
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have built a solid career as a visual aesthetician. Creating powerful conceptual images, I edge on the beauty and fashion of modern photography while meshing it with an intentionally dynamic futurist vision. Inspired by my own illustrative work, I constantly fuel my own imaginative works by building out breathtaking ethereal concepts and striking quality for my clients. As a showcase of my talent, I have had my visual works published in and on countless platforms and magazines, while simultaneously building out multiple systems to both connect and educate visual creatives.
My most current passion lead project and brain child is “The Photo Takeover”. The Photo Takeover is a theme and challenge based, curated-experiential, event series. In this on going series, I bridge the gap between various visual creatives by gathering photographers, videographers, models, muas, stylists, and designers together under one roof to create beautiful and catalyzing portfolio content. I have set out to simultaneously offer career enhancing networking and a multi-tiered skillset-focused growth path for Takeover creatives. This is without a doubt what I am most proud of.
What sets me apart is the fact that I have no ego, I care, and I don’t see others as competition but as potential partners to further our paths if they align.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the hustle and bustle. I think the city provides an atmosphere of creativity that keeps you on the move. It is because of this that inspiration can go so far. I do however, not like the fact that almost everything you create has to have a financial focus in order to continue your craft. Our city is quite expensive and although I can afford it, wouldn’t we all love to just create for the sake of creating? I know I would.
