Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Monique
Hi Angela, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a singer, songwriter, educator and entrepreneur with a passion to spread messages of encouragement , empowerment and spiritual growth. My story begins in the womb. I was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around my neck, a hole in my heart and survived two-open heart surgeries to live and tell the story. When you come into this world with a fighter’s story, you can’t help but to live with a fighter’s heart. That is the heart that drives me to reach the lost, the broken and prayerfully inspire others to do the same through my music, books and platforms to educate.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. I have had to go through family challenges, the death of a parent and starting my life over in a new city. Yet, my faith has kept me grounded and motivated. When I am able to share some of my challenges, I find that people often connect with that level of transparency and no longer feel alone. So in essence, I utilize pain and transcend it for purpose. Those seasons of hardship inspired many of the songs I’ve written to date. They have aided this journey as I grow as a mother, artist and business woman.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I utilize my creative gifts to share the gospel through music, support others through my Mojo Media Online business and publishing company and write in various capacities to educate and motivate. I have the opportunity to expand my artistic vision by getting involved in co-directing and writing short film. My most recent project involves producing my music video for my latest single, “You Win.” The video has evolved into a short film and I am excited for its release in September of 2024! I partnered with director, content creator and fellow artist Kareem Caines, also known as BronxEmcee on that project. What sets me apart as an artist is that I am hands-on with every aspect of the creative process and I do not seek to follow what is popular. I bring my own story and uniqueness because my art is an extension of me. I trust what God has given me to share with others and I allow God to water the seeds I’m planting through artistic expression.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I come from a family line of entrepreneurs that are musically inclined. My family owned one of the few black-owned beauty supply stores, nail shop and hair salon combinations in Atlanta. I also worked as a pedicurist with my sister who is also a singer.
