Today we’d like to introduce you to Alnev
Hi Alnev, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been a writer. As a kid, I would often write short stories and poetry, and loved Language Arts classes. When I was 15, I started writing songs; I had a lot to express and writing has always been such an important outlet for me. I’ve been releasing music since 2019 and it’s been an incredible journey, with lots of ups and downs. My fifteen-year-old self never would have imagined I’d be where I am today, making music I love and pursuing it as a career. When I was 18, I moved to New York and started working on my debut EP “Vincent”, which was just released two months ago. It took forever to make and I’m so grateful it’s finally out in the world.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t really think there is such thing as a “smooth road”. It’s definitely a struggle; making a living off of art has always been an incredibly difficult thing to do. The struggle is there all the time; whether it’s a lack of money, doubt about success, or unmet expectations. This job isn’t meant for the faint of heart. In recent years, I’ve found it challenging to connect with this new artist/social media landscape, where the job of an artist has quickly become chasing virality and instant gratification for audiences with lower and lower attention spans. Artists are more “content creators” than they are artists. I think that’s a very specific challenge for this generation of artists, and many of my friends feel the same way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a singer/songwriter/musician, and I taught myself how to do everything I know. I’ve been playing piano for about 10 years, ukelele for 5 years, and guitar for about 4 years. I’d say my lyricism is what I’m most confident in; writing is something that’s incredibly special and meaningful to me and I really love the way I do it. I’m proud of myself for giving music a shot, for really trying to make this career work and make an impact on the world. I truly believe that every person, and especially, every artist, has a valuable perspective that the world requires to keep on turning. I think we’re here for a reason.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Seeing the positive effect I have on people makes me very happy. And even more importantly, it feels incredibly meaningful. I tend to believe that the pursuit of happiness falls flat when compared to the pursuit of meaning. Happiness comes and goes, but meaning is something that can get you through anything. I feel happy when I’m doing what I love, when I’m surrounded by people I love, and when I’m making an impact. Good weather is helpful too.
