We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kerry-ann Ingram. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kerry-Ann below.
Kerry-Ann, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
In the summer of 2014, I experienced severe burnout while working at a not-for-profit organization that was abusive, stressful, and disrespectful to my mental and physical well-being. This situation led to two hospital visits. After consulting with my doctor, I decided to leave that toxic environment in order to heal.
During my recovery, I recognized the importance of prioritizing my health and decided to take a leap into entrepreneurship by starting my own business.
Once I felt well enough in 2016, I launched my company with the primary goal of helping individuals in the corporate world recognize, avoid, and manage burnout, so they don’t fall into the same trap I did.
Kerry-Ann, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Sure, it’s a really cool story. I was introduced to Reiki by a previous boss who was insightful, heart-centred, and dedicated to her work and her staff. She felt that I had the natural gift of healing, so she invited me to attend a level one Reiki training session with her over a weekend. After that, I was hooked. I decided to pursue my Reiki Master/Teacher certification, and it was the best thing I could have done at the time. After my burnout episode in 2014, I decided to take my healing work more seriously and step into the entrepreneurship space to pursue it fully.
In 2016, when I finally felt restored and empowered, I launched my company with a clear and passionate mission: to help individuals in the corporate world identify, prevent, and manage burnout effectively. Over the years, my focus has expanded to support those who have endured childhood trauma. This shift was deeply personal, rooted in my own experiences of profound trauma encompassing physical, mental, emotional, and sexual abuse in my childhood. Through my journey, I discovered how to alchemize my pain into powerful resilience, and I became passionate about guiding others on how to achieve similar transformations.
I am most proud of the work because I am so blessed to have the opportunity to dedicate myself to helping individuals tap into their inner strength, shed emotional burdens, and break free from the confines of trauma-induced pain prison™️, allowing them to discover and embrace their authentic selves.
In my practice, I incorporate a rich tapestry of ancient healing modalities, each designed to release blocked and trapped energies within the mental, physical, and emotional bodies. My offerings include Reiki/Sekhem energy healing, soothing sound healing, insightful tarot and oracle card readings, beautifully crafted healing crystal jewelry, and guided meditation sessions. I also utilize essential oils, healing herbs, and energy center or chakra healing techniques, all drawn from a deep-rooted lineage of African holistic practices. These methods have been proven to effectively alleviate stress and release trauma-related energy blocks.
Additionally, I facilitate engaging interactive wellness workshops and deliver inspiring keynote talks, creating safe spaces where individuals can explore and enhance their well-being, ultimately guiding them toward a life of fulfillment and joy.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Absolutely, I would choose the same profession again and again because helping others lights my heart on fire. Even before I entered this field, I was committed to assisting others, and I have always felt that this is my purpose. If I could go back, I would start much earlier because, within this space, I’ve found profound fulfillment and joy, even amidst life’s challenges. Though life can be tough, my work allows me to transform difficulties into opportunities for growth.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I wish I had known about this book when I started out as a new entrepreneur,
The E-Myth Revisited by Michael E. Gerber was a game-changer for me when it finally came into my life. It completely shifted how I viewed my business. I initially believed that being a good technician (like baking cakes or providing a service) was enough to succeed. But Gerber’s concept of working on your business instead of just in it was eye-opening. He breaks down the difference between the entrepreneur, manager, and technician roles, highlighting why so many small businesses fail—it’s because we often wear too many hats without a strategy for growth. The book guided me to develop systems and processes, making my business more scalable and less dependent on me. I highly recommend it to anyone starting out because it helps you build a strong foundation that can grow beyond just you, setting you up for long-term success instead of burnout.
