We caught up with the brilliant and insightful LaTina McCord a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi LaTina, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?

The story behind LaTina’s Style Of Elegance mission is to make every women feel beautiful while providing them with a sense of style no matter what size they are. It’s a meaningful mission to me because I’ve always love the fashion industry every since I was a little girl. Growing up It was very rare to see sexy clothes for all size women especially plus size women. Even back then it was hard to really find cute clothes that were sexy or super cute everything looked the same and for the plus size women it wasn’t really nothing for plus size women to even look forward to. I always told myself if i ever get the opportunity to own my own boutique my style of clothing would be different from the others.

LaTina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My name is LaTina McCord I’m the owner of LaTina’s Style Of Elegance Boutique located in Portland Oregon. How i got in the fashion industry because I’ve always been infatuated with fashion every since I was a little girl I wanted to be a fashion designer and part of the fashion Industry. So i promise when I get the opportunity to ever open up my own boutique I would I was given that opportunity so I took it. I provide my customers a sense of fashion and style because some of them don’t have which where I step in and help them to feel confident in what the wear and how they look. I love my customers that’s why I’m not afraid to give them my honest opinion about what they try on if it’s something that i don’t agree with I pull other option and i my suggest something else I rather that customer come back instead of leaving and never returning because they felt like I was just trying to make a dollar. I what my customers or potential customer that LaTina’s Style Of Elegance is a brand for all women.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

What help me build my reputation was me going out and doing markets, Vending events and festival in the community. I went from trying to find events and markets to vend at until they start calling me due to me getting myself out and my brand.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

I started my business with my own money. i just started hustling and saving my money that I had earned from the many festivals and markets that I attended. and I also was able to receive a few grant’s that I had apply for,
