Ashley , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love for you to start by sharing your thoughts about the pros and cons of family businesses.

Growing up, I watched my dad build and grow his own business. I learned at a young age that owning a business was more than the allure of ‘working for myself’ or ‘making my own hours’; my dad showed me that owning a business meant making sacrifices, constantly challenging yourself, and evolving in your industry. As I began my career as a licensed clinical social worker I carried many of these values with me. I continue to dedicate my time to marginalized populations as a social worker and have been able to hone my creativity in Pumpkins n Porches LV. I hope to pass on my dedication of advocating for the underserved while pursuing your passion projects to my children. Social worker to porch decorator is not the typical path, but a few life changes, influence from female entrepreneurs and a love for fall paved the way. I was a working mom of three boys navigating all of the competing demands when my youngest faced medical issues that quickly transformed me from a stretched thin working mom to full time stay at home/care coordinating mom. Both roles came with their challenges and I am forever grateful for the privilege to pivot my career and care for my children. I quickly found that my need to keep busy had me looking for whats next. I began to fill my spare time with baking, decorating and trying to make our house and community feel like home as an east coast transplant in Las Vegas. As our family needs continued to change, I wondered how to keep growing my creative interests. With the thought of creating joy not only within our home but in my community and influenced by the original concierge pumpkin delivery service, Porch Pumpkins, I wondered if I could bring the magic of pumpkin design to Las Vegas. I looked back at the foundations of family business that my dad engrained in me and decided to take a leap of faith. Starting a business as a working mom was intimidating and exciting. Pumpkins n Porches LV quickly took on the meaning of family business with my children helping to clean and prep pumpkins, my husband joining me after traditional work hours get all of our product and my mom coming out on deliveries with me. I have loved connecting with my family in this way and creating beautiful displays for our community. I cannot wait to see how this family business grows and evolves with us.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I am a native New Yorker living in Las Vegas raising three children. Outside of being a mom, I am a licensed clinical social worker and began Pumpkins n Porches LV in 2024. Seeing the beauty that the original pumpkin concierge, Porch Pumpkins creates in Texas combined with my own longing to recreate northeast fall nostalgia, I was inspired to create pumpkin magic in my own community. For years I have loved going to our local orchard, picking the perfect pumpkins and displaying them on our porch to welcome friends and family. Pumpkins n Porches LV creates this welcoming display by sourcing pumpkins to be delivered to those located in the Las Vegas and Henderson area. Our goal is to make the process hassle free, simply select a package and the desired delivery date. Pumpkins n Porches LV offers 3 packages of pumpkins and includes delivery and design services for a custom look specific to your space and needs. There is also the option to further customize your pumpkin display by adding specialty pumpkins, hay bales and flowers. In addition to residential services we also provide setup for storefronts, community gatherings and corporate events. At the end of the season we offer haul away services where we remove your pumpkin display and bring the pumpkins and hay bales to The Las Vegas Farm. We are excited about the ability to recycle our end of season product to The Las Vegas Farm to feed the livestock and create beds for the colder months. In our first short season we have been overwhelmed by the support of our community and cannot wait to create more pumpkin magic next season.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

Transitioning from posting family moments on a personal instagram account to curating content that attracts customers as a small business felt daunting at the start. I found myself hesitating to post or questioning the image, the caption and the hashtags. I quickly realized the most important step was starting. Posting consistently, utilizing hashtags and insights for my target audience were important parts of the equation. Connecting and networking with other small businesses and gaining their support in sharing my content on their platforms was integral in building Pumpkins n Porches LV social media presence.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

Instagram has been the best source of new clients for Pumpkins n Porches LV. New clients have found us through instagram ads as well as referrals from our other clients.
