Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jaelen James. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jaelen thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents have had an enormous impact on my life, and I will always be grateful for the way they exposed me to diverse cultures and new experiences. Growing up, I was the quirky, fun-loving kid with lots of friends, and my parents created a safe and welcoming environment for everyone, keeping us out of trouble. My mom, a musical theatre enthusiast, introduced me to the world of theatre and musicals, while my dad’s work managing artists and producers allowed me to spend time in studios and witness people on their creative journeys. Thanks to them, I now feel confident in my own creative path and truly connected to who I am.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Jaelen James, a creative, vocalist and songwriter based in Philadelphia. I began writing songs at a young age, drawn to the process of creating impactful records. Now, I’m releasing my own music to share my voice and vision which is inspired by where I come from. Along with my own work, I offer production and songwriting services, collaborating with artists and producers who are open to exploring musical directions.
I take pride in continually learning and improving, from writing my songs to producing for myself and others. Recently, I achieved a major milestone with my first song placement, thanks to Brent Reynolds and DJ Dahi, on Ravyn Lenae’s single “Love Me Not”—a career highlight, made even better by collaborating with my brother, Chris Farlow.
If you’re new to me and my music, I invite you to give it a listen and feel the vibes. My songs are available on all streaming platforms. More releases are on the way as I am gearing my first project, JaelenJames on all socials, follow me for any updates. Thank you for all the support and love on my journey in advance and I hope to connect with you guys soon —it truly means a lot to me.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of being an artist is bringing an idea to life, whether it’s a visual concept or a melody I hear in my head. I never take those moments for granted. I record my songs in my living room and when people tell me they liked a song of mine, it’s a full circle moment for me. I feel comfortable recording anywhere but it’s just a different vibe recording at home.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I believe society needs to recognize that we’re all artists in life just practicing different medias. People should have the freedom to create and express themselves fully especially during times like this. Affordable spaces to create and collaborate, art education and mentorship programs, supportive policies, sponsors and community funding are just a few things that could help creatives thrive. There are some organizations/creative camps that are willing to work with artists and help creatives develop in the city and that’s what we need more of. Transparency and community.
