Today we’d like to introduce you to Pk Kersey
Hi Pk, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was called for an interview by NYS DMV back in 1993. I was excited but nervous because I didnt have anything to wear to look professional. I was not going to go until my friend Pastor Sparks purchased me a suit and tie. I wore the items to the interview and got the job.
After working for DMV for 20 years, and now a manager, I was now conducting interviews and began to see men come in unprepared. I felt bad because they were not being hired. I wondered what I could do. I then formed THAT SUITS YOU, a nonprofit to provide men with clothing for work, prom and graduations. It is a know statement that when you look good, you feel good and perform better.
We have been able to assist over 30, 000 individuals and I have also written 4 books to motivate and inspire the next generation.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would not say it was smooth, but it was a road I gladly choose. I believe we grow and improve when we encounter rough roads.
Some challenges have been funding, time management, gaining exposure, and unforeseen circumstances. All have presented some form of discomfort but perseverance, prayer and having a strong mindset along with family has guided me.
I have learned to try to find the answer in every problem instead of a problem in every answer.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
One of the things I am most proud of is my ability to leave my comfort zone. Growing up as a shy, introvert I would never have thought I would speak before thousands of people comfortably, lead 3 book projects including some amazing individuals and have the vision to start 2 businesses.
Some people are born leaders, I am a learned leader because I felt I had to be in order to achieve the things I wanted to accomplish
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
A key to success that I believe is crucial is the ability to recognize your strengths and weaknesses. Along with the ability to confidently, and comfortably work with others who may be better or more talented. Iron sharpens Iron. So step out of your comfort zone, ask questions, study and do your due diligence, and it will be just a matter of time until you see what you desire.
