Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Lewis
Hi Jordan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It started when I was young, fawning over clothes with my mom. I wasn’t fully aware of how much I loved clothes… All I knew was the woman I wanted to become one day required an amazing wardrobe.
At 19 while in school studying business, I got my first sewing machine from the only person I knew who sewed, my church’s seamstress. Clothing designs started coming to my mind like movie images. I graduated college and immediately threw myself into clothing, enrolling in HCC Fashion Design. I started making whatever came to mind and got so much love for my pieces from family and friends. That love and support pushed me to start my brand, J. Alexandra Designs.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think there is a smooth road to entrepreneurship. Mine has DEFINITELY had its ups and downs, and that’s something I’m coming to terms with right now—that it simply will never stop. For me, it’s not just about sales and growth but being in tune with what people want from the brand. All this while remaining true to its original spirit—even if the aesthetic changes from time to time.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I like to say that my brand offers pieces with a luxe feel and playful appeal. My newest collection, called I ❤️ NY, is made with classic feminine-flattering touches, vibrant colors and quality fabrics. Each piece has a heart motif detail. JAD fights against wasteful fast fashion with styles that look great now and wear well over time. Keen attention to details (heart-shaped velvet buttons, silk linings, and hand-stitched pearls) blended with quality construction are crucial.
What matters most to you? Why?
Being happy and at peace, surrounded by the ones I love. Making clothes is something I love but it’s also cathartic for me, because I can get really in my head. Releasing my art comes full circle when I can share that talent with others. When someone feels good about themselves in MY art, it fills my heart.
