Today we’d like to introduce you to Natania B. Parker
Hi Natania B., we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Yes, it’s so great to be able to be featured in this publication again! So during my last interview, I spoke about my beginnings as a child with a super busy extracurricular schedule. A child, who then grew into an adult, with an even busier schedule. Picking up where we left off, I’ve had some amazing developments with my non-profit foundation, being able to be a helping hand to several hundreds of families last year. I also spent a bit of time as a NYC Charter School teacher. I’m currently enrolled in school full-time at NYU, concluding my Bachelors degree I started 10 years ago. I freelance as a contracted brand ambassador and creative consultant for multiple companies. All while simultaneously, still being a full-time actor/singer/dancer, but now being a member of The Actor’s Equity Union, and being represented by an amazing agent! I am so thankful to God, to my village who keeps me grounded, and everyone on my team who’s been a part of pushing me forward!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My road has been far from “smooth”. But I could dwell on my woes, or appreciate the person I’ve become because of them. I choose the latter. Everything that happened was for a reason, and has truly shown me what I’m made of. I dedicate everything I do to my angels watching over me I’ve lost along the way. I know they’re rooting for me, so I can’t give up. Life is tough, but so am I.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
So I consider myself a creative in all senses of the word. I am literally creating the life of my dreams every single day. My first love as a performer never leaves me though. No matter what I do, my heart returns to the stage, whether it be acting, singing, or dancing. Something I love about myself is how passionate I am about the things I do, and how it shows. That was the reason I started my non-profit, to help cultivate passion in the next generation and show them how to let it lead them through the rest of their lives. I’d say I’m most proud of my resilience and perseverance. I work in a career where auditioning and hearing rejection often is tough, and it’s quite the norm, but I keep going because I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. What sets me apart is that I don’t think about “if” my dreams will come true, I only wonder “when”. Not reaching my goals has never occurred to me. I know I walk in my divine purpose everyday, so success has no choice but to happen for me!
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory would have to be growing up in the dance studio. Those that have done it understand, it’s a special type of community unlike anything else. I remember begging my mom to sign me up. She surprised me one day and just put me in a class, and I remember being shy for all of a split second and then being hooked. I loved every part of it. Even days when I came out of class sweating and crying, I’d be crying way harder if I was told I couldn’t go back next week. I created bonds and sisters for life. You learn not just how to dance, but true life lessons. Then of course when it came time for the glam of costumes, picture days, and recitals, I was all about it. I remember the feeling of the audience clapping and screaming for me for the first time. I say all the time the reason I’m a performer right now, is because the first time I stepped on a stage, I knew there was no better feeling. Nothing has topped it, to this very day.
