Today we’d like to introduce you to Malcolm T. Banks Jr.
Hi Malcolm T., we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey has been one that not too many would be able to face. From success to failures, to losing a mother and a sister, to divorce you name it, but a close father figure to me told me something one day about myself that I had never realized. He said, “Malcolm, I have watched you re-invent yourself through everything that you have been through over the years”. I pondered over that statement for days and it dawned on me that the resilience that God has anointed me with is not normal and I would not have gotten this far without him.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I am always quick to be open with my struggles and obstacles because you cannot help anyone else grow by making them feel that life does not have its dark times. I have faced so many things that would break the average person and at the same time I know I have not faced some of the things others have been through. In 2008 at the beginning of my senior year in high school I lost my mother. Life went on and I got married and eight years later in 2020 divorce took place. I picked up the pieces and two years later my sister, my only sibling passed away and I picked up the pieces from there as well. Even in the midst of all that despair God kept me upright.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I run two different businesses that intertwine at times! Banks Media Connections is multi-faceted media/clerical company where we provide all kinds of video, photography and content creation as well as clerical items such as business cards, flyers and other merch. Da Shirtshop is my custom clothing and apparel company where I provide shirts for every day people and businesses and companies! I love working both of these businesses! They bring me such great joy!
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I would like to say that even though I went through so many things in my past, I still made it through. I got up at times I did not feel like getting up, I made sacrifices for the greater good of my life and my future and I was blessed to be able to grow my two businesses and thrive and be a trusted member of my community. It is ok to sit back and sit down when things are dark. You need to take heed in those moments and understand why the dark times are the dark times. Those moments of reflection will help guide you the opposite way going forward. I was even blessed to get a position at one of the local news stations here in my city! God is amazing! Last but not least! I am currently running a Coloring Book Drive in my local area until May 31st! If anyone would love to donate Coloring Books and Crayons go to our Facebook Page “Elizabeth’s Crayons” and see more information!
