Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudio Parentela
Hi Claudio, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
oh…my artistic career, my artistic adventure, twisted, splendid, difficult, flat, full of ups and downs…began many many years ago, around 1995. It was not an easy choice for me, I had many doubts, many fears, but I felt a strong, desperate, necessary desire to make a radical change to my life and I chose the only thing that I didn’t have and that I felt an urgent need for, my freedom. I started drawing and to paint everything, illustrations, paintings, comics….in many many zines and magazines….covers for punk, noise, metal, industrial bands….t-shirts for many underground brands….I drew like crazy every day and I sent my drawings around the world, frantically, joyfully.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely no, absolutely yes….absolutely it hasn’t been an easy path, because since then I have worked every day, all day, but I have earned little or nothing, but absolutely yes, it has been a beautiful, free path, absolutely free, cathartic for me, for my true being, which was in tune with what I wanted most…certainly the journey was and is long, but I am happy to be able to live fully thanks to art every day of my life ,and to be myself.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create my freedom every day in everything that I am, that I live, that I breathe. Only this is essential for me. Artistically for me it means being curious about everything that surrounds me, that I have at hand, that attracts me into one way or another, with which I am in sync. I like to create and experiment in everything, with everything, I draw, I photograph, I sew, I glue, I draw, I paint, I dirty my photos, I use photos, ropes, colors, papers, fabrics, buttons, stones, I don’t want to set limits but to be creatively open, free to invent and re-invent myself every day, following only my heart.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Being open and accepting without any judgment everything that comes, what I encounter.
