We were lucky to catch up with Aisa Badmaeva recently and have shared our conversation below.
Aisa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’ve always been drawn to capturing moments that feel authentic and timeless. Photography became a way for me to connect with people and tell their stories in a way that words sometimes can’t. I started by capturing little details in everyday life, and the more I photographed, the more I realized how much I loved being able to preserve those moments. There’s something magical about helping people remember the happiest days of their lives, and that’s what keeps me excited about photography every day.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Aisa, a photographer passionate about capturing life’s most meaningful moments—whether it’s weddings, proposals, or intimate portraits. I got into photography because I love storytelling through images, preserving memories that people can cherish forever. I offer a range of photography services, from elopements to mini shoots, and work closely with my clients to create a comfortable, personalized experience. What sets me apart is my commitment to authentic, candid shots that reflect real emotions. I’m proud to be trusted with my clients’ special days, and I strive to make each session unique and memorable.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson I had to unlearn was the idea that every shoot has to be perfect and that I need to control every aspect to deliver a flawless outcome. Early on, I believed perfection was the key to making clients happy, so I would stress over every little detail and try to control every element. But over time, I realized that true beauty—and often the best photos—come from moments that are unplanned and spontaneous.
One particular shoot helped me see this. The weather didn’t cooperate, and we had to improvise a lot. Instead of perfect conditions, we had unexpected rain, wind, and a little chaos. But those photos turned out to be some of the most authentic and loved by my clients. I learned that embracing imperfections allows me to capture the real, unfiltered moments that clients cherish most. Now, I focus on creating a relaxed environment and letting things unfold naturally, knowing that the most memorable images often come from the unplanned.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One story that stands out was a wedding shoot where almost everything seemed to go wrong. The day started with unexpected weather shifts, going from sunny to a sudden downpour, which disrupted the entire plan. The bride and groom were understandably stressed, and many of their outdoor shots seemed impossible. I quickly had to shift gears and come up with backup locations, using covered spaces and creatively working with reflections and the dimmer light.
At one point, I remember feeling overwhelmed, but I reminded myself to stay calm for the couple’s sake and to make the best of what we had. In the end, the photos captured the beauty and raw emotion of the day, rain and all. This experience taught me to trust my skills and adapt, no matter what’s thrown my way. It reinforced my resilience and my commitment to giving my clients everything I can, even in challenging situations.
