We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Barbara Kamba-nyathi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Barbara below.
Alright, Barbara thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Bold Dialogue is an intuitive wellness platform that facilitates healing, ignites hope and brings the possibility of boldly living a life that honours your passions and dreams. We work with women across Africa, equipping them with the support, mentorship and tools required to transcend trauma in order to truly operate from a place of excellence.
Because we recognize the power of community in our culture, we intentionally engage men in our work. We lead heart-to-heart conversations that pave the way for emotional and mental healing because empowered men, empower the women in their lives.
Our culturally-informed offerings range from curated immersive nature and spiritual experiences, workshops and masterclasses, to coaching and psychotherapy. We also publish a monthly magazine that reaches readers across the globe.
Whether we’re in the village coaching our young leaders, or facilitating a virtual corporate training, our mission remains the same: To serve through healing.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Barbara Kamba-Nyathi, affectionately known as Barbs The Emotional Alchemist. I am an emotional and mental healer, inspirational speaker and coach, co-founder and CEO of Bold Dialogue. I know what it’s like to be stripped of everything — who you thought you were, people you thought would be in your life forever, your prized possessions. On my journey, I’ve survived cervical cancer, endometriosis, a hysterectomy, a divorce, abuse, a swollen gland in the brain, cardiac arrests, and even living with an autoimmune disease. Each challenge came with its own set of lessons, but I’ve continually seen the power that comes with redefining and rebuilding your identity on your own terms. I have made it my life work to create space for this transformation for those searching for a better way to be, and Bold Dialogue is a manifestation of that purpose.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In the month of October of 2016 I finally had the long awaited hysterectomy, after 12 surgical operations due to endometrial and cervical cancers. This major operation came with some changes that called for adapting to a new way of life, as I reflected on the implications of this it occurred to me that I can successfully use the same coping mechanisms for my business as well. My hysterectomy has helped me look at business from a different perspective, and most importantly it has taught me to embrace change and find ways to upscale in the face of adversity. I have since come up with six important lessons that I am applying to my business and these are.
Lesson One
Identify the ailing parts of your business -watch out for parts of your business that are becoming obsolete and be open to letting them go so you can grow.
Lesson Two
Phantom pains are real – if you feel that there is something amiss in your business, honour your intuition and assess what is going on, and work on improving the area.
Lesson Three
Applying a band aid or removing the ailing part entirely – some challenges can be salvaged, but some call for a complete turnaround and implementing an entirely new strategy.
Lesson Four
Finding wholesomeness without the other parts – just because you started your business offering a certain product or service does not mean you can not do exceptionally well without it should it not meet expectations.
Lesson Five
Regeneration of identity – keep innovating and growing, overcome limiting beliefs
Lesson Six
Powering through new normal – a clear vision, the right team and an unparalleled passion will always see you through the hurdles.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
We should never underestimate the power of the spoken word, people really talk out there and their word holds so much power in attracting new clients. All the new clients I have gotten have been inspired by word of mouth. Happy and satisfied clients have made recommendations, they have mentioned my name in spaces I would normally not have found myself in and in return they have gotten me new clients. It is therefore very crucial that when we serve our clients we really show up and deliver to the best of our abilities because we may not know where or how our next client may come from.
