Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dallas Sbar. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dallas, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Taking a risk in life is always a big step for many people, for me personally it was becoming a model. Coming from a world where fixing cars older than I am and slinging wine glasses to other connoisseurs, makes modeling seems far out of reach. One night at my wine bar I was scouted by the great people at Page Parks. I was given an opportunity to go to their offices on my next day off just to check and see what it was about. I decided I had some extra time so I showed up. A quick meeting with a career advisor, gave me the opportunity to learn how to model, become educated in the walks, the styling, and in the industry. I was able to walk at agent review for Page Parkes in front of about 100 different agents. I had so many callbacks, it took a little bit to decide what to do and how to do it. I signed with State management up in New York. A few months after signing with them, I jumped on a plane and headed up to New York for fashion week for my first time. This is where the risk comes in, everything I have done as a model has all been about risk, taking the leap, the next step forward whether it’s signing the contract going to the show, signing with another agency in New York or even just going to New York Fashion Week. It’s all risk. Nothing is promised and it’s all about riding the elephant and see where it can take you. My time in New York was extremely pleasant. I was busy pretty much every day from sun up to sundown between castings, photo shoots and films. My first year in New York I ended up walking in two fashion week shows. I did a fantastic photo shoot for gentlemen quarterly Mexico. I also managed to show up on Vogue runway and Vogue photography. All of this within my first year of Modeling.
None of this came cheap or easy. It came with sacrificing tons of time, putting my faith into my agents, friends, other people, and designers. The juggle between Modeling, college education, a full-time job, and taking care of a home is difficult. But risk is everything. there is no reward without risk. There is no comfort without reward and there is no reward within comfort. Everything is about taking the next step whether it’s the next agency, the next Modeling gig, my next class in college or the next wine I’ll pour for a guest. It’s always about finding the new best thing through the risk of losing it all.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into my industry as a model by being scouted by the fantastic people at page parkes, I was working at my wine room and provided usual dinner service, afterwards they offered me a chance to go see them. To see if i was interested in modeling, I obliged and the rest is history. I am now a high fashion editorial model, I am proud to represent the designers and artist clothing on the runway. Personally I am able to see myself in ways i had never dreamed of before, none of which would be possible without this amazing opportunity. I am always proud to be selected for a show and work with all the incredibly talented artist, designers, and photographers. Variety is the spice of life, and i want to be on fire.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My main purpose in being a fashion model is to show anybody that no matter who you are, what you do, or where you come from, you can be successful at it. A year ago I was just pouring wine and working on my beautiful Acura Legend. (Shoutout to Ludicrous and his Acura Legend for inspiring me to rebuild mine.) Now i have been to New York, participated in fashion week, and even had a couple showing on vogue. Anything really is possible if you want it bad enough and make those leaps of faith.
Another reason why I have joined this industry is due to my family. they always made comments on how i could model growing up, i never had an avenue into the industry until now. Shortly after it was on my bucket list to walk and be featured on vogue.
Well Mom, you were mostly right, i ended up in a magazine too.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I feel the hardest concept for most people to grasp in this industry is the styling. I’ve met lots of people who assume the looks i showcase are a personal representation of who I am, and that is not entirely true. The clothes are the art of the designer, and i am just a canvas for them to paint on. My role is to showcase looks i normally wouldn’t style myself in. I have adored all of my looks and working with all of the designers so far, however that does not mean my personal style is reflected in my work in totality. Some styles are enjoyed more than others, however i am brought on to strut and showcase. I am always thrilled to be styled in new and intuitive ways. The opportunity to see something new outweighs any sort of personal opinion I have.
