We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dana Bloeser a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dana, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
From a young age, I loved anything beauty related! Starting at eight years old, I would rummage through my mother’s makeup and hair collection, experimenting to recreate looks from my Seventeen magazines. By the time I was 11, my passion had turned into a career aspiration when I began assisting with hair and makeup for my older sister’s friends for their homecoming dances, proms, and other special events.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
After a few years of doing makeup and hair for my sister’s friends, I decided to apply to cosmetology school. Fortunately, the cosmetology program was offered at a technical high school, allowing me to obtain my license at age 18. Since then, I’ve been providing a variety of services, including bridal, special events, and special effects hair and makeup.
My primary goal is to help clients feel beautiful in their own skin by enhancing their features and creating a look aligned with their personal style. What sets me apart is my adaptability – I can adjust techniques and styles to suit different clients, occasions, and environments.
I’m most proud of the brand I’ve built for myself and the progress I’ve made since starting with nothing. I’m excited to see how much further I can go.
I want potential clients and followers to know they are beautiful as they are, and I hope to inspire more kindness in this tough world. You never know what someone is going through, and I want my brand to showcase these values to my clients and followers. My work aims to help others become more confident in themselves.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
As a newcomer to the beauty industry, I faced a lot of online bullying. My portfolio needed improvement, and I would often find posts mocking me and my work. This caused me to take a short break, but I realized that dwelling on every negative comment would prevent me from thriving. So I decided to get back into the game and continue my work, despite the negativity.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
In the future, I hope to expand my business by offering educational services to support other aspiring artists. Additionally, I would like to collaborate with other businesses and potentially explore opportunities in the fashion or film industries.
