We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Andrea Romero a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Andrea, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
If I could go back in time naturally I wish I would have started my small business sooner. Although if I’m being honest I feel like everything in life happens for a reason. I started my business in 2022 right after having my last daughter Sunny. The maturity and knowledge I had from my previous carpentry business helped me properly navigate Rock N Scroll.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello! My name is Andrea Romero I’ve been a woodworker/carpenter since 2017. It all started with my ex husband a couple years back. We were struggling to make ends meet and we decided to put our talents together and start our own business. We built it from the ground up with no small business loan. We constantly reinvested in our business. Launching So-Tex and watching it bloom into something big inspired me to start my own little small business. I took the leap with his support and Rock N Scroll Co. was born. I took my woodworking skills from the first buisness and added on to it by diving into 3D sign art achieved by using a scroll saw. Every item on any of my signs is hand cut and completely custom. No two signs can be replicated. Starting my 2nd small business really gave me the confidence as a mom knowing that I could in fact take care of my children full time along with run successful companies. This past year I enjoyed working with engaged couples on designing their dream wedding signs and bringing those to life. Along with helping other small businesses bring their logos to life. As a mom of 3 I’m always on the go but I honestly wouldn’t trade this life for anything else. I’m most proud of how far I’ve been able to bring both my small business in such a short amount of time. The hard work is endless but so rewarding. I can’t wait to watch how much we continue to grow.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
My social media presence was a hard one to build. It might look easy on the outside but don’t be fooled social media is a full time gig. I started off small with 100 followers if that. I started to follow other people that did similar work. Then it came to gaining the confidence to get in front of the camera. It took time but I found my crowd of people. I look forward to interacting with my followers they have become friends and family!! My main advice to social media is be yourself and your people will gravitate towards you. Authenticity is key!! Do it fearless! Be bold!! Don’t be scared to post something cringy! At the end of the day all content is cringy!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The one lesson I learned is that your buisness will only grow with as much hard work as you put in. What people don’t realize when starting a small business is that it takes discipline. You are your own boss so you can set your own schedule but with that being said you have to keep yourself accountable and your company will only grow if you put in hard work day in and day out. Burn out is real so there has to be a balance between work and play! Without hard work there’s no progress! Hustle hard!
