Hi Kyle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
On July 26, I had the honor of serving as a special guest speaker at this year’s KCON in Los Angeles. Alongside my colleague Isabella Salant, I discussed my professional journey in the photography industry and shared engaging behind-the-scenes anecdotes from the realm of K-pop photography. This event was a significant milestone in my career, marking the realization of a long-held aspiration. In 2016, while working for a media company, I dreamed of hosting a segment before a live audience. Years of perseverance have led me to achieve this dream, underscoring the value of unwavering commitment to my vision.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Throughout my career, I have engaged in a diverse range of creative roles across various organizations, from established corporations to dynamic startups. Each environment has presented its own distinctive challenges and learning opportunities. I have consistently embraced these opportunities to demonstrate and expand my growing portfolio. As a media executive and collaborator, I excel in bringing out the best in my subjects, ensuring they radiate the excellence they inherently possess.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My mother–Linda Stevens–was exceptional at documenting various aspects of my life, an influence that undoubtedly sparked my interest in photography and visual arts as I grew older. During my college years, I became the go-to person for capturing amazing moments at parties, focusing on nuanced details that my friends would cherish in the future. As I began to establish my presence in the media industry, I was eager to further develop my skillset. I immersed myself in photography, seeing it as a medium through which I could truly excel. By continuously honing my craft and actively engaging in the field, I was fortunate to secure a role as a freelance Shutterstock Editorial assignment photographer within the past year. This experience has been both transformative and deeply rewarding. I am also the Queens Gazette’s lead entertainment journalist who reports on the latest pop culture news in the New York City area.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success fundamentally boils down to embracing and loving your life. At its core, love is the guiding principle in all of our endeavors.
