There’s a concept of the Matthew Effect which uses math to illustrate what folks have lamented about for thousands of years – the rich get richer while the poor get poorer. Take tech for example – the rich and poor often have different problems, but because it’s more profitable to solve problems for the wealthy a disproportionate share of tech innovation focuses on solving problems for the affluent. However, it doesn’t have to be this way – and we have been blown away by the thousands of members of our community who have devoted their lives through their businesses, organizations and art to serve the underserved.

Magnolia Public Schools, a public charter management organization serving more than 3800 hundred students in grades Tk-12 across LA, Orange, and San Diego County, operates 10 community schools that serve the needs of historically underinvested communities that fall under this demographic and the families that live within the community. Women are an underserved community, especially older women. Our podcast, Women Over 70-Aging Reimagined, just celebrated 300 episodes, 5 years, 400,000 downloads and listeners in 120 countries. The podcast was born out of our desire to showcase vital, vibrant women, 70-110, whose stories are breaking down barriers and reframing the conversation around women aging. Ageism, which discriminates against society’s older population is now receiving interest. The women we interview are courageous, creative and contributing members of society. Their voices must be heard by women of all ages. It is not acceptable for older women to be rejected by the workforce or be shuttled into the background when their wisdom is beneficial, their knowledge credible and their experience worthwhile.
