We were lucky to catch up with Julia Liverton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Julia, appreciate you joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
It all started with designing my own wedding invitations. I had attended design school to study Industrial Design, and had been working within that industry ever since I graduated. Because of this, I thought it made sense to design my own wedding invitations. I soon realized that I actually really enjoyed the process of designing wedding stationery and appreciated how special it truly was to contribute to such a memorable day.
Seeing our wedding stationery come to life was honestly such a magical moment. It added this beautiful, personal touch that made our day feel even more us. That feeling is exactly what I want to give to my clients – something that makes their day feel truly special and all their own.
This journey from designing my own wedding invitations to creating custom stationery for couples worldwide has been a fulfilling adventure. After my first few projects, I started to notice that my work had a specific style that I felt was unique compared to the rest of the market through its clean, bold aesthetic that seamlessly incorporates personal touches. By hand-drawing the artwork, I create designs that are tailored to each and every couple’s personal story and vision. As every design is completely unique, each project brings a new creative challenge. This keeps it exciting and let’s me approach every design with fresh ideas.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a designer based in Brooklyn, New York, and I run a stationery design company called Ton O’ Liver Studio, inspired by my last name, Liverton. I wanted a playful name that would pique people’s interest and put a smile on their faces.
The two big things that set me apart from other wedding stationery designers are my Industrial Design background and my unique style. My background allows me to find functional and creative ways to bring ideas to life, while my clean, bold design aesthetic seamlessly incorporates personal touches in a meaningful and memorable way. For example, a traditional seating chart sign wouldn’t have worked at our venue. Our welcome table was too small to hold both escort cards and a welcome sign, and since it was outdoors, we didn’t want the cards blowing away. With these challenges in mind, I designed a fabric table runner seating chart – this could drape across the welcome table without taking up too much space or blowing around. It also now doubles as a special keepsake from our wedding that we can use in our home that reminds us of that day.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Like many creatives these days, I found success on TikTok – that’s where most of my clients have discovered me. While we all know social media can be frustrating at times, I believe it’s so important to keep posting for yourself, regardless of how well it performs. Don’t be afraid to try out different content styles and experiment with various methods—just have fun with it!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey is all about inspiring joy and incorporating those one-of-a-kind details into life’s big moments. I want to create stationery that uniquely reflects each couple’s story while adding a meaningful touch to their celebrations. Ultimately, I hope my work resonates with people and helps them cherish their memories in a truly special way.
