We were lucky to catch up with Malen Reyes recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Malen thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?

From a young age, I felt a strong urge to pursue a creative path, despite living in a country where creativity wasn’t encouraged. I often found myself sketching outfits and envisioning designs. I explored both hair artistry and fashion, taking classes in each. However, fashion ultimately captured my attention more, as it allowed me to express my passion for detail and design.

Malen , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I’m Malen Reyes, and my brand is Malen Reyes Couture. I started my career in the late 1980s as a designer, focusing on custom high-end women’s wear, bridal gowns, and evening wear. My love for fashion led me to graduate from Barbizon Modeling Acting Center in 1987, where I learned about modeling, hair, and makeup, giving me a well-rounded view of fashion.

I also enjoy working with charities to host fashion shows, as I want to give back to the community and inspire others to chase their dreams.

I recently opened a boutique, Roma De Rey, in Spring Branch, TX, where I design limited edition pieces like clothing, purses, jewelry, and accessories. My aim is to create a special experience for my clients, helping them express their individuality through my designs.

What makes me unique is my focus on detail, ensuring every piece has its own style. I want potential clients and followers to know that my brand is all about creativity, empowerment, and helping people feel confident and true to themselves.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

Yes, my mission is to inspire people to pursue their dreams at any age. I believe that fashion and style can significantly contribute to personal happiness, and I want to show others that it’s never too late to set new goals. Through my work, I aim to empower individuals to express themselves and find joy in their unique styles, proving that creativity can flourish throughout life.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the ability to express myself creatively. Through my designs, I can share my ideas and emotions, and it’s fulfilling to see others connect with that. Knowing that my work allows people to express their individuality and creativity makes it all worthwhile.
