We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Michael Jacobs. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Michael below.
Michael, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
In 2018, 13 years after graduating from the Nova Southeastern University as a dentist, I decided it was time to open my own office. I always told myself that when I was ready, I would build it from the ground up in a patient oriented, friendly way that offered maximum comfortability in a high-tech environment. A place where patients could trust the dental team and feel like they were relaxing in their own living room. The challenge is to build with principles and to watch the business end at the same time. Always maintain focus on helping others and the financial aspect will come.

Michael, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We have now opened a second office, Hallandale Beach Dental Group, which will complement our North Miami Dental Group office. Our goal is to make dental work as easy as possible for everyone to obtain and to assure patients that they will be comfortable. The key is to surround yourself with like-minded individuals who believe in customer service and will take the extra steps to ensure that everyone who calls, comes in, emails, etc will receive personal care and attention. We spend time to talk to our patients about their treatment plans, risks and benefits, give them options and not put pressure on them to do any work. We are here to help and welcome everyone to our extended dental family.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Being honest and trusting your staff. No one wants to be in the dental chair. If they did, we would think there is something wrong with them!! So, we focus on the details. The little things that add up to a positive experience. Blankets, pillows, headsets, Netflix, dark shades to block out the overhead light. The office is always super clean and the machinery we use is cutting edge. Plus, we send out thank you notes to all our patients and call them to see how they feel following treatment. We care. That is what sets us apart.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In 2012, I was diagnosed with stage 4 diffuse, large B cell lymphoma. I never cried or got upset. I listened to my doctor and did whatever he said to do, so that I could get better. They told me I had 3.5 weeks left if I hadn’t gone to the emergency room, but as soon as I found out what I had, it was only a matter of time before I beat it and not ever an IF. It’s a mindset and you need to have resolve beyond what you think is reasonable to win in life.
