We recently connected with Bishop Osei and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Bishop, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I feel like my life was always leading me to it, but when I was 18 was when I actually put out my first piece of music and decided to just not look back.
It was February, i had just left college, I knew I wasn’t going back but at the time I was telling myself I was just taking a break. I had only been there one semester and was already on academic probation. For some reason, even with 0 equipment or signs pointing to it, I would find myself making a plan, a vision board, a goal list, just anything that helped me visualize the version of myself I wanted to become. Knowing what I know now about the law of attraction I can safely say I probably daydreamed myself into becoming an artist.
But that brings me back to the central topic, I ended up having to leave school for the rest of the semester, and I got the news the day after I made a “goals for the next 6 months” list in my phone (every goal was music related) and it just felt like everything was happening for me to step into the life I had been subconsciously creating for myself..

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well, firstly, my name is Bishop Osei (oh-sigh). I’m a music artist, I play with a lot of different genres but I’m rapper at heart. I officially began my music career in 2019, interning as a songwriter with Unapologetic. I was there for maybe 9 months, and it was the perfect environment for me because it’s like I was thrown to the wolves and had to adapt or die, and that’s kind of the way I prefer things. I had zero ”real” knowledge of the music industry, to that point all I had was a love for music and some kind of weird innate feeling that I was right where I needed to be.
Right as my internship was ending I released 2 EP’s (Beginner’s Doom & Flowers) that basically set the groundwork for where I’m at now artistically. Since then I’ve released 8 EP’s & 1 album (Flowers Vol. 2) with my 9th EP ‘Hell is Empty’ scheduled to release on November 11,2024
I think what I’m most proud of to this point is the fact that I listened to myself as a child and had the courage to see it through. I’ve witnessed people’s childlike joy and creativity get sucked right out of them, I just never wanted that to be me.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Probably breaking the rules but I’ll give two: the first is knowing that you’re bringing an idea from your mind to reality. It’s alchemy in its purest form. Second, I’d say witnessing people connect with your creations, especially when you’re being so vulnerable that you’ve gotta convince yourself to release it to the public

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I just want to be the best, whatever that looks like. Really, just the best version of myself. I used to say I wanted to win the most Grammy’s in history, and while that’s definitely still a goal, at 25 I feel like my perspective on success has moved from accolades to just making sure that I’m crafting my legend in the most authentic and meaningful way possible
