We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Michele Gaskins. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Michele below.
Michele, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The mission of Step It Medical Training reads as follows: Faith+Hard work+Dedication=Success. This mission is meaningful to me because while starting this business I had to tap into my faith, this business was started because of my faith. I slowly started the business and when God told me that my assignment was up at my former 6 figure job, I put in my 30 day notice and dove into operating Step It Up Medical Training. It took tons of hard work and dedication to get to where I am now with the business. There were sacrifices that my husband I had to make, in order to ensure that the business had the things that it needed

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a foster child, teen mom, and SA survivor who has overcome many obstacles in life. At Step It Up Medical Training we provide educational services to clients that are looking to start a career in the healthcare field or looking to further their position in the healthcare industry. My ability to identify with my students on personal and professional levels is one thing that sets me apart from others. Another important thing is the cost of my courses are more affordable than most of my competitors. Before becoming a Registered Nurse, I myself was afforded the same opportunity as my students, I took a Nurse Aide course, became certified, and was able to take care of my children.
I will ensure that students are reminded of Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.” I always put my best foot forward with each of my students, ensuring that they are successful.
The classes that are taught: Nurse Aide, Phlebotomy, Medication Technician, and CPR.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
The funding of my business goes back to my faith. In order to fund the business, I utilized the fact that I am a nurse. I worked multiple jobs, while my husband whom also owns his own business supported our household. I have yet break into the funding aspect of business, other than using my own money. I leaned and depended on God to get us through the most difficult times, when it came to financing.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The roughest season during the opening of the business was becoming a licensed school. During this process many doors were slammed in my face, but I didn’t give up. It took a total of one year for the school to be licensed, which is what has to happen in order for me to provide the Nurse Aide and Phlebotomy courses. Once I received my license, I started off with only 1 Phlebotomy student and then 3 Nurse Aide students.
