We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bev Standing a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Bev, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I did a commercial for Kraft shredded cheese. The commercial was great but it was special to me because my Dad, who was an advertising exec had the kraft account for years when I was a kid. He has long passed but it meant the world to me.

Bev, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into the industry in my 50s at a time in life when I was going through a very sad time and I simply took a course to keep myself busy on a date that had meaning to me from that course
From that course came improv at second city acting training more voiceover courses and eventually led to my first job
I provide voice over services for commercials TV and radio non broadcasts digital e-learning training videos telephony
I have done 1 video game trailer I have done one season of a TV show narrator, one audiobook, and I have done a couple of little animation things so I’m kind of all over the map and I love that about this industry
I was able to bring with me my business skills from my years of working plus my background with my dad in advertising
I think I’m most proud of the fact that I have been able to turn this into a full time job with no intention of retiring and a much higher income than my day job that would have led nowhere and I would have had to have retired by now so that’s kind of fun
I would have to say I’m most proud of the fact that I stood up to a large company when my voice was used without my permission and that did two things
1 it enabled my voice to be taken down but 2 it opened up the eyes of many in the industry to see what was coming in the way of AI for us and it is still a conversation and I’m very proud of that
it also indirectly started Nava the National Association the voice actors which is doing amazing things with respect to voice over protection
Talking about my brand it’s simple down to earth blue and green earth colors
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
From what I understand about NFTs they’d be a great way for voiceactors, well creatives in general, to track where their work is being used. This is a hugh issue in the industry and few in this world work for free so this is a hugh issue.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me being a creative lets me play every day
I get to pick which 16 hours a day I work which allows me to take a break when I need it and not at a specific time like in a desk job and for me that is mentally freeing
because my industry is global and the Internet has us all connected I have met some of the most amazing people who are also the kindest people and love to pay it forward
my opinion of the voiceover industry it is the best in the world
