Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Annie Pereira. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Annie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Talk to us about building your team? What was it like? What were some of the key challenges and what was your process like?
When I was fresh in the hair and makeup business, I was focusing on building my own brand and clientele. As I gained more experience, I had the pleasure of networking with other artists and creatives that were inspiring, talented, and enjoyable to work with. It took a couple of years for me to gain more volume, but with consistency in my work I began turning bookings away. At that time, I decided I wanted to include my network in those bookings to allow growth for my business. I’ve hand-picked each individual artist for my team from previous work experience and networking. There have been some hiccups along the way when sometimes an artist’s work doesn’t match the Amplified Beauty brand, which comes the difficult side of letting someone go their own way. At the end of the day no one would care about my business more than myself, and I have to take that into consideration when hiring other artists.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the owner and lead operator of Amplified Beauty, a professional special event hair and makeup company. We mostly specialize in bridal, but my artists and I provide services for a range of reasons whether it be branding, corporate photoshoots or family photos. I am in charge of all the booking, scheduling, administration and client correspondence in addition to any on-site artistry needs. I truly enjoy the artistic side of this business and love being part of such special occasions as weddings. When I first started in the industry, I was joining other teams and assisting wherever I could. After some time, I decided to really focus on my brand and grow my own business. Using my previous customer service experience I have been able to mesh everything together to provide clear communication and services that enhance each individual’s beauty. The ultimate mission of Amplified Beauty, is to enhance everyone’s beauty within their comfort zone.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Most people can expect a lot of planning and coordination involved in the wedding industry. Sometimes timelines shift and service counts change. Being on the business side of it and planning timelines for my artists up until the week before the wedding can be tricky. Most recently, I had to change the timeline due to a change in venue and access time. On this day particularly, I had two artists cancel due to schedule conflicts. This was one of those situations that I had to step in personally and run from one event to the other to ensure all services were complete.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Social media, and a consistent presence on those platforms has allowed more people to reach out to us. I think social media has a huge benefit of free advertisement, but it often comes with pressure to post more regularly and keep on top of certain trends. At the end of the day, it’s all about how you market yourself and your business.
